The time the vets are on the field in preseason just doesn't compare to a regular season game. Those guys really hit a hell of a lot harder when the game's for real. This game is really brutal. I would be in favor of 2 scrimmages, 2 pre season games, and a 14 game season max.

The last preseason game I attended was in Denver 2008. Josh Sitton and James Jones both injured their knees. Sitton missed the next 6 games, and Jones missed 8, as he kept re-injuring the knee all year. There are guys out there playing for their careers in preseason games. Desmond Bishop destroyed people for years in preseason games.

There is a chance the 18 game schedule might not happen. The crazy suicide of Duerson sent shockwaves through the league. The evidence of how damaging the game of football is to the human brain is becoming more robust each year. If I were the NFLPA, I'd be carrying a 8 foot by 10 foot picture of Duerson into every meeting...and when the 18 game schedule came up as a topic, I'd just point to the picture and say "retirement medical coverage?" The medical costs to cover a league full of players would be pretty steep...and the players have every right to demand far more than what the NFL offers right now, especially if the owners demand 18 games.
