  • Nick Barnett

The Lions signed Stephen Tulloch, $3.35 million. Barnett probably is available cheap.

TT was wise to let Barnett and Jenkins leave. But I don't know why he doesn't try to resign those guys, they play positions of team need.

Barnett said he wasn't made any offer to reduce his salary. He was told goodbye. Sounds like the same situation with Jenkins.

Age. Injuries. Ted's got a pretty good track record at determining when to cut the chord.

      Here's a bit from Sunday's Detroit News:

"The Lions' pursuit of free-agent linebacker Nick Barnett has heated up with reports he was flying to Detroit on Saturday and visiting the team Sunday.

The Lions have been interested in Barnett since the lockout, and those pursuits seem to have intensified since his release from the Packers.

Barnett played in only four games last year because of a wrist injury, but he's an eight-year veteran who's had six 100-tackle seasons. Barnett played middle linebacker in Green Bay, though it's unclear where he would play with Detroit if signed.

Schwartz was asked about the team's interest in Barnett and declined to comment on specific players."

I think chemistry plays a big role too. Attention seeking veterans sitting on the bench is not conducive to a team approach in the lockerroom.

I think your wrong on that. Besides wanting to be in a team photo with his teammates how was Barnett ever a attention seeking individual? Ted knows what he is doing, you don't sign aging injury prone players. Its simple as that, had nothing to do with chemistry.

I think that may well have factored into Barnett's release, but I've never heard anything like that about Jenkins. They guy almost always played through his injuries - though with diminished effectiveness.

It's interesting to see that Philly seems to see Jenkins as a situational pass rusher. Maybe that's how he's seen around the league and so he didn't get his big money.

The Lions' interest in Barnett is in keeping with their signing of Durant - a willingness to sign guys with injury histories.

                  And I'm OK with that.

Back in about '06 or '07 when there was talk of Barnett being moved outside, he was outspoken in his resistance to moving because it would hurt his stats and negotiating position for his next contract which was a year away at the time.

Barnett if fine as long as he's starting. When he's not "the man" he tries to find ways to get attention. That's just my observation and opinion.

Nick Barnett cancelled his trip to Detroit and it looks like he's sticking around in Buffalo. I guess he found a new home.

Of course hes going to be resistance if moving him outside would take money out of his pocket, Kampman felt the same way about his change to linebacker. Kampman isn't a attention seeker like you say Barnett is but Ted decided to let him walk as well. Kampman ended up playing only 8 games last season for the Jags, Ted just knows its not smart to sign aging injury prone players. IMO chemistry played a very little role in bringing back Barnett or Jenkins because both were well respected in the locker room.

Didn't Barnett throw a fit when he thought he might have to move over for Hawk?

Did he not just answer that in the same post you just quoted?
