An impressive number of tackles in college was the reason Lions' officials gave for drafting Jordan Dizon a few years ago. They cut him recently.

And Abdul Hodge was the same mold, right? Very productive college player, not the best workout numbers.

On the other hand, Chris Spielman was the same way.

I recall that the knock on Bishop was lack of range despite being a very productive player in college . Probably would not be a starter if the Packers were still in a 4-3.

Hodge didn't work out because he had pretty crappy knees. He was the slow one that could lay wood better than the rest of the LB corps, where Bishop was considered (relative to Hodge) a more rangy, more fluid, less strong sort of enforcer type.

come to think of it, Hodge had a brother playing MLB for the Badgers, and that guy kind of faded out of the picture too.

D.J. Smith may be slow running a 40, but he was the most productive linebacker in college football history if I'm not mistaken. He reportedly has great football instincts and a knack for making plays, albeit at a smaller school. It remains to be seen whether he is Sam Mills reincarnate or something else, but he's a legit candidate to back-up inside and be a kamikaze on special teams I'd say.

What are his numbers compared to the Iowa MLB the Packers drafted a few years ago? He had the same resume and less than impressive numbers and went elsewhere. Abdul Hodge?
