Boehner only rejected the time because Obama intentionally scheduled this speech to conflict with the GOP debate, just like his [not]campaign bus tour just happened to visit Iowa during the GOP straw poll, and because King Obama did not follow proper protocol, in consulting with the very Congress that he intends to "address" on the date said address is to happen. Apparently Obama forgot he needs to be invited to address a joint session of Congress, he can't just walk in and start yelling at America when it's convenient for him.

As to the game, it seems impossible NBC surrenders the advertising revenue that the first hour of the game generates and essentially blacks out the beginning of the regular season opener, which includes such a wonderfully talented musical line-up, so that the "president" can give another prime time campaign speech. I do wonder if the White House will ask the NFL, like they did the Reagen Library, to change the time of their long standing scheduled event to accommodate Obama's whims.

Just one more thing this moron is getting wrong...
Swede: My expertise in this area is extensive. The essential difference between a "battleship" and an "aircraft carrier" is that an aircraft carrier requires five direct hits to sink, but it takes only four direct hits to sink a battleship.

Maybe NBC could do a split screen. The audio question would be a little more complex, though.

He'll be on at 7:30 EST, and the game starts at 8:30 EST. Obama is your "pre game" show. lol.

I can handle this setup. Awkward McCarren and Larrivee works for me.

                  Still better than that concert.

Though I will miss Dungy. Pontification aside, his coaching bits with the telestrator are worth tuning in for.

You know what, I'd rather ignore his rambling than have to ignore Kid Rock's.

Let's hope the talking heads on NBC don't decide to rehash everything Obama said afterwards like they usually do!

(in my best Madden voice) What you saw and heard there is some one that has no idea what is going on. First he lies one way then he votes another he is really sinking the franchise...Brett Favre

Both sides are full of it. Obama requesting it during a GOP debate was a crock, but Boehner wasn't man enough to say the real reason he rejected it. Instead he said it was because they had to vote scheduled that evening. I guess congress can't be bothered to come to work an hour earlier.

Skin, the whole argument was about the very request you said Obama didn't give Congress. He followed the protocol, but he did request it on a day that he knew would be controversial.

Now to the more important point. There is no way in hell that NBC will lose even 5 minutes of their prime-time advertising to what amounts to a presidential campaign speech.

Yeah, it turns out after several weeks of promising this speech, he gave notice to Boehner's office of the proposed date and time, waited a whole two hours, didn't get a response, and announced the date and time to the media. That's not protocol. Scheduling the date jointly is protocol. Waiting for confirmation is protocol. Not to mention, as you say, that it couldn't have been more obvious what he was actually doing.

NBC is still in a tough spot. They've been very liberal under the GE stewardship, and haven't made much of a change since. Certainly they want to cover the speech, which Obama will predictably be 10-15 minutes late for as per his usual, but they're going to lose money on even pre-game advertising if they do cover it. Every bar and sport's fans' TV in the country's going to be tuned to ESPN until game time if NBC's pregame is Obama, and advertisers know that.

Why on earth do we need another speech? IF he has a plan. Send it to congress already. They'll vote on it. What a show boat. He acts like a Chicago Alderman.

I can't believe people want to watch the Packer game over hearing Obama speak yet again. I can't get enough of the guy. He is hunkalicious:
