  • Interesting. A lot of the scout's comments slanted toward the negative, but not with Jamari Lattimore.

"We liked Lattimore a lot," a scout said. "I thought he was going to have a tough time making the team because of his size and the depth they have at the position. He's not the body type of those other guys."
"There's a lot of interest in the draft. It's great. But quite frankly, most of the people that are commenting on it don't know anything about what they are talking about."--Ted Thompson

Keep in mind that our #5 WR last year only had 9 targets as a receiver. If you're going to have a guy on the roster to mostly play special teams, when it comes to comparing two core special teamers you have to give the edge to the guy who may actually make an appearance on offense or defense.
That's true from the game day perspective. But I am under the impression that Ted's about talent, talent, talent, and he's kept some odd numbers of position players to accommodate talent. He kept five TE's this year, but are all of them going to be active and playing TE on game days? I thought Jones was quite pedestrian, plus he's hurt a lot. He seems less talented at his position than Gurley or West at theirs.

I think it's funny the scout getting all weird about the Packers keeping 5 TEs:

"Four would be the most a team has carried," he said. "Very interesting. That's heavy."
The Arizona Cardinals also kept five TEs after the final cutdown. It's a brave new world.

Waiver claims in by 11 AM (that's Central I bet) and notifications come out shortly after that. After waivers are announced, I think the PS signings can commence. Possible that players who were not subject to waivers could be signed quicker.

I think Nance is a guy they would hold onto if they can on PS. He looked the most natural of the RBs blocking on third down. Though it was only against 2nd and 3rd string.
Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

Nance was on the active roster for 15 weeks last year. I believe that makes him ineligible for the practice squad.

                  • Here it is, 11AM on Sunday. Any word on waivers or PS dudes?

                    • I don't know why the hell we need 5 TE's...West should have made the team at least as a return guy. TE is where the cuts need to come to add an O-line. We saw once Finley, who is a difference maker, went down that TE was fairly irrelevant and ho-hum. Def wasn't a critical position where we need 5.

                      • I bet West and Gurley get claimed. Harrell too. 49ers are looking for a QB3.

                        • You would think teams would be all over West and Gurley, at least.

Any word yet on waiver claims? Either or the cut Packers, or on players Thompson might have bid on?

The thing is: every team cut a bunch of guys that they're hoping make it to the practice squad and teams are generally higher on the guys that they had in camp that they like than the guys who other people had in camp. Gurley doesn't look like he's ready yet to be on an NFL roster, any NFL roster, and a bunch of WRs with tools got cut yesterday.

                            • West was a surprising cut given special teams capabilties.

Five tes is fine since they can function as defacto fbs and h-backs.

Please board -- explain why Crabtree and Brad Jones are worthy of roster spots?

                              • They can cut Crabtree and add four players to the roster. That gives them a lot of options.
