I took Robert Ayers #11 overall, and he sucks. (In my defense, Ayers actually went 18th, whereas Brown went 43rd).

Brown was one of those guys where the stat line looks great, but the closer you look the more discouraging things you found. Most of his college sacks came against vastly inferior competition (he had like five sacks in one game against the Little Sisters of the Armless), and his game was basically based on motor and technique... he didn't really have great physical tools to work with (his combine workout was kind of shockingly discouraging.)

The "Planet Theory" pretty much made Raji over Brown (and even Raji over Matthews) a no-brainer. The consensus was that the Packers might take an OLB at #9 if all of the big men they valued (Jackson, Raji, and some of the OTs) were gone. The groupthink was that the OLB Thompson coveted was Brown, while in reality it was Matthews (Thompson apparently claimed he was willing to take Matthews at the #9 spot, in retrospect nobody could have blamed him.)

I have rarely seen him play, but when he made the Pro Bowl last year, Patriots fans were wondering who voted for him. He did not have a good year last year.
Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

It probably wasn't Ravens fans who voted for him.

Here's Meriweather's finest moment in college (he's #19). He runs in from the sideline and kicks a man while he's down (about 50 seconds in).

Tolzien was claimed by the 49ers off waivers. Means he is on roster, correct?

            Clay on Steelers PS.

Looks like they are, and starting McCown - who's been with the team for 2 years without a start.

I'd guess they've decided Gabbert will be ready sooner rather than later, and don't want to guarantee Garrard's contract by having him with the team on Thursday. Del Rio just got one step closer to the door, IMO. This move will lose them some games.

Jack del Rio seems to have slowly morphed into a dope. I wonder if decisions like this (and Leftwich) are driven by ticket sale considerations. They would rather rope as many people as possible into buying tickets THEN cut a well known player.

Just heard that it saved them 8 million this year (JAX).

His base is reported at $8.25million.

Just looked at his Wikipedia page, I didn't realize he'd been in the league that long. He was drafted before Leftwich, and sat on the bench while Leftwich was the on-again, off-again starter.
