The paragraph about Favre telling MM he'll understand if half way through the season, MM wants to give Rodgers playing time. Kind of makes idiots out of the morons who are posting the Farve is selfish BS. Also the reason about him coming back do to what Simms said was very interesting and makes perfect sense.

This is good and bad. Good that it shows Brett is not selfish, but bad because he must be expecting us getting crushed in some games because thats the only way A-Rod gets in.

        cool article, thanks for sharing.

god, watching favre... it's so hard not to feel what (i think) he's feeling. so many years rooting for the guy, you just want to see him go out with a big ol' smile.

i dont know about that. brett is a saavy vet, he's been around for what, 16 years, and i think he has some realistic expections. even if being "realistic" isn't necessarily the BEST quality for a leader (versus being blindly confident) you have to understand that after last year, he's not 100% sure we're gonna go out there and be 9-7.

if not, he's saying that he wants whats best for the team and if that means getting aaron out there for a half (or game) or two this year then so be it. if he doesnt make the comment now and we are having a rough season then it creates much more of a media distraction when the time comes... not to mention even more retirement inquiries which is definitely not something we need to go full bore into during the season again.

might even spark him up a bit... who knows.

            Favre

I think he's approching it realistically. The way I see it, this season he can't be undecided. If he plays well and the team is only averagre or a little below
then he has to state he's coming back for next season. If not then Rodgers need's to play the last 4 games.

Why? Rodgers gets the helm when favre is done. He is paid generously for a backup, and can and should ride the pine until favre decides to call it quits. Ideally, I think him starting in his 4th year would be the most beneficial to the club and his career.

                I agree.

What I was trying to say is if we are 4-8 then what is the point of Brett playing IF he is'nt coming back for the next season? In that case Rodgers will need game experience if he is indeed our future. I also think that is the same point Brett is trying to make i8n this article.

Hey, I'm the biggest Favre backer on the planet as evidenced by all the arguements I have in forums when someone takes an unfair shot at him like that moron Z. However, I am above all a Packer fan and the good of the team comes first. If Brett has his mind made up that he is'nt coming back, then Rodgers need's game experience even if he only plays 2 games..

Obviously if the last game this season is Brett's last, then of course he should play.

The best case senario is for us to be competitive whith a glimer of hope for the 2007 season and Brett comes back.

I love Brett Favre as a Green Bay Packer, as an awesome QB,as a dedicated football player par excellence,as a role model of how to conduct yourself as a PRO athlete,as a supreme competitor, as OUR Leader, as one very excellent person and a fine MAN.

Seeing him enter possibly his final curtain call, is beyond anything I can properly put into perspective, at this time.

It sickens me, to read what some write negative about Brett Favre and especially Packer fans. Packer fans, that are in such a rush to dismiss him. I can't find anger for these people, only pity.

Brett Favre deserves one thing from Packer fans - RESPECT.

He's a classy man, and we get to see him at least, for this season. I'm so pleased he made the right decision for himself to return. Will that decision have a cost. I expect so, but DAM I am behind this GREAT GREEN BAY PACKER - all the way to that final goodbye - and that has to be all his decision based on whatever falls on him.

A decision based on where the game of NFL football has taken Brett Favre and the Green Bay Packers.

Is he selfish? He's selfish to win - yes !! That's what it means to be a Pro athlete. He's not along for any ride, but to help OUR team come as it may.

I loved the story. It really tugged at my Green Bay Packer heart. As a person is he selfish?

Well all of you decide that, and note this from Peter King's story:

It also helps that Aaron Rodgers is having a good camp this summer. McCarthy even told Favre to get lost for the last five days of organized offseason practices, which meant Rodgers could get all the reps with the first unit those days.

"We found out a lot of good things about Aaron,'' McCarthy said.

"I've got a lot of confidence in him right now.''

Peter King - I asked Favre:

"What do you say to those who would say it's stupid for a guy like you to come back to a rebuilding team?'' . . . P.K.

"You mean from those people who think the Packers ain't gonna be worth a s---?'' . . . B.F.

"No,'' I said. "I mean from anyone.'' In other words, how could he say this was the most talented Green Bay team he's been around? . . . P.K.

                        "Well, that's fine,'' he said. . . B.F.

"I'm telling you, we're going to be OK. I know people will be surprised if we're 8-8. But who knows? This year may be better, it may not be. And if there comes a point in the season where it's like it was last year, I won't walk away, but I will totally understand if Mike says, 'We're going to look to the future.' That's fine. This thing has to be about our team, not about me.'' . . . B.F.

GO ( as in give errrr Hell ) Brett Favre. This fan willl never turn his back on YOU - MAN !!

I don't know if it's all that amazing. It's all anyone talked about for 3 months. You couldn't have paid these people to shut up about it. There are a million other reasons to wish for it as well, but I hope we kick ass this season so the decision gets made early and easily this year.

But I'm sure Brett rarely listens to it. And yet he turns on his radio and there's Phil Simms (a guy I'm sure Brett has some respect for) saying exactly what he needed to hear.

Either way, I don't really care. He's back.
