Teams cannot prevent coaches from interviewing and leaving for HC spots. But there are only certain windows available to be interviewed without team permission.

Report is that Winston Moss met with Raiders in Green Bay last Saturday after Packers walk-through practice. If true, do we assume that MM gave the okay?

I think any assistant can interview for a HC job. But a team would need an okay from McC for any of our assistants to talk to another team about a coordinator or position coaching spot if the assistant in question is still under contract.

The issue here is that they are reporting that the Raiders interviewed the Moss the day before the Packers had a playoff game. That would be against league rules. You can't interview a coach whose team has a game that week, much less the next day.

Yes. Moss could have been interviewed the week before. It's possible the reporter had the date wrong.

If Moss doesn't get the Raiders' head coaching job, is that damning evidence that he won't get a shot somewhere? His ties to the Raiders are stronger than with any other team. McKenzie's been around him for a while and has gotten to know him. He's already had a couple years of interviews. My guess is that this is his last shot. Until the next cycle in several years.

I've always felt Moss was vastly overrated and I'm still confused why he is our asst head coach. There are three or four guys I'd value over Winston w/o even thinking about the rest of the coaches.

Moss had deep ties to Oakland and McKenzie had worked with him for year. Dude is old news.

No. He's the perfect Rooney Rule candidate - you can interview him for every job, but it's a big step to head coach from where he is, so you take the up and coming fiery coordinator. Moss' next step would be coordinator. If you don't see him get that within the next few years, you have to start thinking he's another Nolan Cromwell - someone who you'd think was totally capable but for whatever reason is just not able/interested in taking that next organizational step up. I'm betting Edgar Bennett or Kevin Green gets a coordinator and then HC job before Moss and/or will ultimately be more successful than Moss.

Therefore, it would appear that Clements will be staying in Green Bay.
