Time will tell of course but you have to imagine it wouldn't take much to re injure that thing or worse.

If he cannot play then it would be foolish financially for the Colts to pay him this exorbitant bonus. They most likely will release him. Maybe with more time he'll be able to throw again. But if not he's had a heck of a career.

3-4-5 Keep 'em alive. (Cervical Vertebrae, that is.)

Jesus, is it really worth it?

I guess to athletes at that level, it is.

If Peyton can't play, the Colts should keep him in the fold one way or another.

Great players that play for only one team return dividends for that team until the day they die. In the case of Peyton Manning, he has sold more seats for the Colts than anyone else. If he does hang them up, the organization should immediately declare him "A Colt for life" and use him to just promote the team. The recent trouble between him and Irsay is nothing that can't be easily repaired.

If Manning CAN'T perform at a high level then you could probably expect him to retire and not look back. He's had more than enough time to think about what he would be based upon the contingencies.

Neck injuries all to often mean the end of a career, and for good reason. Sad to see Collins and Manning both be forced into early retirement, and I don't even like Manning.

I got very sick of the Peyton Place show last fall. Manning kept talking about how he wanted to return to play, even when team was 0-10. It was the Colts fault, they appeased Manning by refusing to IR him.

The Colts would have to be nuts to pay Peyton Manning a bonus and commit to a contract. Manning needs to totally get off of any time schedules, just assume he is retired. If someday he makes a full recovery, I'm sure he can make a deal with an NFL team, even if it is midseason.

Interesting misspelling for Collins, in light of the topic.

I think they basically paid Peyton to rehab this year, have a chance to play and see how it goes (it went bad) and then they could not be accused of not giving him a shot or a decent contract while injured.

It was $20 something million of CYA. Public relations insurance is expensive.
Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

20 million and a locker is the going rate. Sometimes even that's not enough!
