"PACKERS MAY HAVE TO GAMBLE FOR A PASS RUSHER"

    Some highlights

A third-round grade from the draft advisory board didn't stop him. 16 Sacks Last Year
No, Whitney Mercilus of Illinois didn't need to think too long and hard about entering the 2012 NFL draft
Before 2011, Mercilus was a nonfactor at Illinois. He had just two sacks in two seasons

Mercilus, USC's Nick Perry, West Virginia's Bruce Irvin and Marshall's Vinny Curry are possible options, while general manager Ted Thompson also could try to trade up for Alabama's Courtney Upshaw or South Carolina's Melvin Ingram.

Perry, who had 9½ sacks last season, would prefer to keep his hand in the dirt. He says he'll play standing up, but Perry is probably best suited for a 4-3 scheme. That's where he feels comfortable.

Elsewhere, Curry had 23 sacks in two years

I don't think trading up is a good idea, we need our draft picks. One guy who isn't talked about that much is Ronnell Lewis, OLB, Oklahoma, the guy is a brutal tackler, he's kind of raw but I think he'll be gone by the time the Packers pick in the 2nd round. Thanks Ted!

      B,

Gil Brandt has Curry at #41. http://www.nfl.com/combine/story/090...P11_hot_topics

Would you trade down into the 2nd round, trade up into a higher 2nd round pick, or take him at #28? Doubt he'll be there at #60.

I'm doing the same thing I suggested last year with Brooks Reed. Trade down to 35 range, take Curry and be happy. And then package another pick with our 2nd and try to get another pick in the top 45. I think there are outstanding prodpects to be had through the 45 range.
