  • Dave Tollefson???

All this talk of Manny Lawson got me thinking who else might TT be interested on the cheap for competition at the ROLB position. Saw a twitter post mentioning that Dave Tollefson was visiting teams and that the Packers might have interest.

Didn't realize that he had 5 sacks in limited duty last year. Height/Weight/Speed he seems to be a solid candidate opposite Matthews and the fact that the Packers have familiarity with him from the 2006 draft (TT's 7th round draft choice) makes it all the more interesting to me.

Anybody hear any more substantial regarding Tollefson or have strong thoughts one way or the other on him?

I also heard they might have him put on weight to be the other starting DE, could play a duel role for us, which McCarthy tends to like.

This IMO would be a stellar signing. Tolllefson is not star but he's far better than the manure we plugged onto the field last year at DE. He's a manual...hard worker kind of guy who could come cheap.....good fit for what TT seems to look for

Tollefson and Lawson be4 the draft would be sweet but I can't imagine improving two positions of weakness be4 April Draft Day
TERD Buckley over Troy Vincent, Robert Ferguson over Chris Chambers, Kevn King instead of TJ Watt, and now, RICH GANNON, over JIMMY JIMMY JIMMY LEONARD. Thank you FLOWER

This would make more sense than going after Manny Lawson, who, it turns out, was not being pursued by TT. Lawson has never been a sack guy. Tollefson had 5 last year, despite only starting 2 games. He has only 10 career sacks, but I suspect his snap counts have been pretty low. I seem to recall him showing some potential as a pass rusher during the 2006 preseason.

Hes just a guy IMO, you have to factor in the team he was playing for. Teams had to focus on stopping JPP, Umenyiora, and Tuck. He would get more attention on our team with Clay being our only passer rusher. Also when the guy came out of college is was 25 and he'll be 30 when training camp starts. If we can get him for cheap for depth then thats cool but I don't really care too much for him.

Good work ethic and smart enough to overcome the fact he's not an elite athlete.

He'd have to be an OLB, wouldn't it? I'd be surprised if he was able to bulk up the 40 pounds that would be needed to play DE. It's not like he was keeping weight off with the Giants to play LB in their 4-3. He was a DE.

Yep, OLB. I'm not sure he's the answer, but he would be better depth than the ROLB's they had out there last year.

A position change at 29? I am thinking pass rush specialist at tackle.
Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

Wouldn't that be a position change as well? Hasn't he been a 4-3 DE up until now, or did he line up at DT for the Giants?

I think he rushed from DT. When healthy, JPP and Umenyiora rushed from DE. Tuck moved inside with Tollefson. When Umi was hurt, I thought Tuck went to end but its possible some of Tollefson's increased playing time came at DE during this period.

Yeah, I think Tollefson's role would be to come in during obvious passing situations and get after the QB. Considering that we weren't able to do that, at all, last year, it's not a terrible idea.
