That seems ridiculous. Couldn't they simply have said "NFLN should have provided better guidelines, Sapp did not follow established protocol and we each apologize to Jeremy Shockey. As far as the reported item, we refer you to Goodell's statement on the matter. Again, we apologize." If they said this by Day 3, or after Goodell's statement on the matter, it would all have blown over.

I don't think NFLN, ESPN, TNT, etc., know how to handle the ex-athlete's turned paid analyst. They have to stay hip and maintain cred with the fans and the players themselves and need these guys to be relevant. So the ex-players get a longer leash (unless they take pix of their Anthony Weiner, i.e. Sean Salisbury) and double standards are bound to rise. So Barkley gets arrested for DUI as he was looking for a Lewinsky, but he stays employable. What would the NBA on TNT be without him? Boring. And boring doesn't draw in viewers or advertisers.

Now, for the shocker, Sapp was good on NFLN and won't be easily replaced. The man is a jerk but he knows the game and did well on TV. Without the "snitch" tweet and the follow-up comments on-air, I think his contract would have been renewed for sure.

I believe that from the human standpoint that Warren Sapp will get alot of sympathy; that the NFL Network has benched him and will quietly let him go ...move on without him.

Who enjoys seeing anyone bust his/her own ass? I certainly don't.

Somehow even feeling as negative as I do over Warren Sapp and seldom can anyone get me to that place. I cannot help at the same time... feeling sad for him.

Some people just can't help themselves. They choose ignorance. Ultimately it becomes this:

He obviously hasn't had trouble feeding his face, so it's not like the guy is starving. All it means is that he's going to (finally) have to deal with the same issues normal people do. Until someone else gives him another couple million to sit around and sound stupid saying stupid things. Christ, on that front, he's building one hell of a resume for a GM spot ala Matt Millen, so there's always hope.
