  • Jeff Saturday Breakdown from Football Outsiders

Actually, they breakdown the entire Colts line but Saturday was the impetus. Ben Muth, who covers line matters for FO , reviewed the Week 17 game Colts versus Jacksonville.

    Takeaways
    1. Saturday still has good footwork esp. in running game. Makes him quicker than others.
    2. Still good at combo blocks either on NT or hitting DT and moving to LB on second level.
    3. Tendency to drop head to give a turtle shot to onrushing lineman with a free path. Can be beaten when he does this as he is looking at his feet. Muth thinks this is common among undersized lineman.
    4. Not much mention at all on pass blocking but a different evaluation of Saturday elsewhere said has given up a very low number of sacks in the past few years (source that I cannot recall)
    5. A step down from Wells overall.
Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

    A courageous post.

Saturday's real problem at this point in time is that great big 3-4 NTs who are monsters can eat his lunch, but I think Green Bay has the guards (Lang and Sitton are a high-end pair) to make it work against any interior DL they could run up against. Saturday's real strength at this point in his career is making the pre-snap reads, which McCarthy's offense really depends on heavily.

Also he's been very reliable. Based on that and still given his age Jeff Saturday offers not much risk factor.

I'm sure this has been beaten to death, but my take on Saturday signing is two-fold:

          1) I truely think TT will stick to his BPA in the draft, and it maynot be a defensive player. Konz is getting much love and it looks like it may work out that he will be the BPA when the Packers pick

          2) TT & MM have hopes that someone, EDS or whomever will fill the roll at center.

Either way, TT has protected himself somewhat versus a OL mess that we had several years ago. Saturday didnt cost as much as Wells, and it was a shorter term deal...Wells was looking for multi-year deal. IF the Packers cant get/do either of the above, they have Saturday to fall back on.
If you don't like me....bite me...

              Jeff Saturday's a perfect fit.

              GREEN BAY

" Jeff Saturday appears to be the perfect fit at center for the Green Bay Packers.

The five-time Pro Bowler has played in an up-tempo, no-huddle offense, something the Packers want to do more of in 2012. He’s protected an NFL MVP, which he’ll do again this season. He’s whip smart when it comes to understanding the game, which is accelerating his learning of the Packers’ scheme. Entering his 14th NFL season, he’s a respected veteran voice in the locker room, and the Packers don’t have a lot of those at the moment.

But most importantly, he meets quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ wacky primary criteria for what makes a good center – “Low sweat ratio and solid butt height”– as Rodgers described in a recent interview. " Fr. Story

Low sweat ratio and solid butt height?

Isn't that what porn producers are looking for in their female stars, too?
