  • 1st Round trade details, what for what.

This is the best summary I could assemble of all trades involving first round picks in 2012. I apologize if there are any errors. I did not do a lot of checking, but I did try to follow through on all details from a number of different sources. I think this list it is reasonably accurate:

    Rams traded 1/#2 to Redskins for 1/#6, 2/#37 and ‘Skins 1sts in 2013 & 2014

Vikings traded 1/#3 to Browns for 1/#4, 5/#139 and 7/#211

Bucs traded 1/#5 to Jags for 1/#7 and 4/#101

Rams traded 1/#6 to Cowboys for 1/#14 and 2/#45

Seahawks traded 1/#12 to Eagles for 1/#15, 4/#114 and 6/#172

Raiders traded 1/#17 to Bengals as part of deal for Carson Palmer

Bengals traded 1/#21 to Patriots for 1/#27 and 3/#93

Falcons traded 1/#22 to Browns as part of the 2011 trade to get Julio Jones

Broncos traded 1/#25 to Patriots for 1/#31 and 4/#126.

Saints traded 1/#27 to Patriots as part of a trade in 2011 draft. Patriots in turn traded this pick to the Bengals with 3/#93 to get 1/#21.

Ravens traded 1/#29 to Vikings for 2/#35 and 4/#98

Patriots traded 1/#31 and 4/#26 to Broncos for 1/#25. Broncos then traded 1/#31 to Bucs for 2/#36 and 4/#126

I was kinda hoping for a point value chart breakdown.

    Are we getting spoiled here?

How much does the point value chart really tell us now that the rookie salary cap is in place? It would seem that high 1st rounders would have a lot more value now that you don't have to sell your first born son to sign your shiny new QB.

            True.

But it still establishes reference points for comparing deals from similar spots in the draft. And you can probably make year over year comparisons to validate that teams do in fact place higher value on the high draft picks now because they don't come with the boat anchor contracts.

I think the rookie pay scale and a weird draft class that doesn't have many players deserving of a mid-first round draft pick messed up the chart.

Funny, when you just apply the numbers, the Vikings don't look to have gotten such a steal.
When you apply some rational analysis, they traded down one spot, still got the player they intended to draft anyway, and picked up two extra draft picks. They are getting two picks for nothing.

Vikings also got #4/118 from the Browns (58pts) so the Vikings got 1901.5. Technically not getting full value, but realistically getting a 4, 5, and 7 and still getting the guy they would have taken, which is a great value in my book.

Are you sure about the fourth round pick? One site I looked at it listed the 4th round pick, two did not.

Yes Vikings pull off the deal of the century in the NFL.

Mike Holmgren and his 'the telephone call' went something like this:
