I don't know the rationale for his camp's decisions. Neck liability aside, he's a borderline elite safety.

Borderline elite, Smug? You're pretty tough. Prior to the neck injury, he WAS an elite safety, don't you think? How many safeties were better? One? Maybe Two? I'd say that makes him elite.

I do wonder though what's happening - my guess is that Collins kept going to different doctors until he heard what he wanted to, but the Pack was not willing to risk it, having seen probably all the same reports. So Nick maybe has seized on the one or two more positive reports, and right now other teams are diligencing (I just made that up) to see if they want to take the risk. Then, if they decide to, they can sign him in time for him to show up to camp.

I hope I'm wrong, though. I hope the guy retires.

Actually, I'd argue he was the 2nd best of all safeties in the NFL in 2010 (behind Eugene Wilson). It's not really a position with any elite players at the moment. Polamalu was elite a few years ago, but he's not anymore, even when he's healthy. They gave him a lifetime achievement DPotY award in 2010, just like the one the writers gave Bob Sanders the year he won it.

I'm just fantasizing over the word 'diligencing'. A sexy word.

It's just that I'm sick of the cliche "doing their due diligence" so I thought I'd shorten it up.
