  • Percy Harvin asking for a trade

Saw it nationally...wow sucks for the Vikes.

I don't see anything in Harvin's statements that actually say he is requesting a trade. Others have speculated he is. Sounds like he isn't going to practice until some things are ironed out (contract?).

No its all over the radio hre, his reps asked for a trade. MY GUESS is that he is looking for more cash, they said sure we will work something out, then they offered it and he decided he is worth more and asked for a trade. This is not a flash in the pan move I think this has been brewing.

One speculation is that he's not thrilled with what looks to be a diminished role the in the new 2 TE offense the Vikes are running this year. He's seeing other WRs that he's as good or better than getting paid 20M+ guaranteed and this new offense would reduce his chances of getting that kind of money if his numbers go down as they are looking like they are in this offense.

Or maybe he's just pissed that the team he's on won fewer games in 2 seasons than his FL college team won in one season and wants out.

There are two stories. The first, from yesterday, was his statement about unspecified issues he wanted addressed. That seemed pretty low key.

But the AP is out today (or last night) with a source saying he has asked the Vikes to trade him.

Edit: Tom Pelissero has confirmed it.
Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

He has two years remaining in his Rookie contract and nothing will come of this.

They should redo the contract now they would get better value, also Smokey Simpson signed for more and Percy is supposed to be the go to guy. This could get ugly in a heartbeat because Harvin is not this type of player and he is integral to the Vikings offense.

The sense I get is that this is less about "money" and more about "Harvin doesn't get along with his coaches and doesn't like his role in the offense." The issue of "money" is a lot easier to fix, but it's entirely likely that Harvin has just decided "I want to play somewhere other than Minnesota." It's unlikely that he gets traded now, but I could see him forcing a trade next spring.

Money will help him get long better, but it does sound like he has some issues with the coach.
I asked him about Frazier's plan to get him on the field more often than he was last season -- when he participated in 58 percent of the Vikings' snaps.

Harvin rolled his eyes, shook his head and said: "We'll see. We'll see."

Yeah, it's definitely evident that Harvin doesn't like Les Frazier. It's not clear whether or not he likes anybody else who works there. One of the reasons the Vikings cut Randy Moss after his brief stay a couple years ago was that they were afraid he was a corruptive influence on Harvin. Apparently they kept in touch, despite the roster move.

Unlike the very limited options Moss presented (frightening ones, but few) Harvin has a good case about being on the field and a bigger part of the offense. The migraines and injuries though, have to be taken into account with that 58% number.

Maybe they could trade him to the Jets...

Well from what Paul Allen, Voice of the Vikings and has a pretty good line on the goings on at Winter Park, Les and Harvin have a good relationship. They both praise eachother in person and in the media. PA guessed it was either money related or the new OC but thats it. The two TEs will do nothing except enhance Harvin's Stats but if the kid rips up a knee he will be playing for only $900k this year as a number 1 WR that is terrible money.

Allen is answering a question that isn't pertinent. If Harvin is unhappy about his playing status, whether he blames the HC, OC or equipment manager, the HC and Harvin have a problem. By definition, if not directly.
