We are going to need an anatomy dummy to decide this, because the DB didn't hit Crabtree on the top or even edge of the shoulder but the outside closest to his arm. If that qualifies as "neck area" then the NFL deserves what it gets from its officiating.Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

The RT that Perry whupped was Andre Smith from Alabama. He's a lazy bastard, but strong as a bull with great feet for a huge guy. Perry bulled him and whipped him in test of strength type deal. Perry is the real thing when it comes to a bull rush. Now we need Clay (& maybe Clay's daddy) to add some clubs to the kid's bag. Perry is still lost in cover, but he's hustling and trying.Originally posted by pbmax View PostSaw only the first half but:
Please, please, please let Sherrod get healthy
Welcome to the team Nick Perry (would love for KYPack to tell me that Right Tackle was good because Perry abused him several times)
I think I will like the CedBen era, all apologies to Bretsky for doubting
-even when he ran the zone from single back and picked or pressed the wrong hole, he was very close to breaking it
-if he can pick that up in a week, he will be very good in Week 8
-he did cut back one very well for big yardage, so he can do it
TWill looked healthy
Saturday has to pass block longer
Defense looked vastly more aggressive
-loved the pass rush
-loved the goal line stand
-loved seeing a 3 man rush and deep zone forcing a short throw and then something happen that I think is called a tackle short of the first down marker
-at times looked like a Steelers defense from 5 years ago
Worthy, even when blocked at goal line, still fought and stayed square, not losing his feet or angle, he might make it
Hope Crabtree is healthy, I don't think that was a penalty though (the penalty on the deep throw to Nelson was missed entirely)
Hope Pickett calf injury is minor
Saw Ryan Taylor get open a few times, good news
That's more than many rooks do.

I've seen him running shirtless, "lazy" and "huge" might be putting it kindly.Originally posted by KYPack View PostThe RT that Perry whupped was Andre Smith from Alabama. He's a lazy bastard, but strong as a bull with great feet for a huge guy.
N.B. Don't google that shit, you don't want to see it.</delurk>

After the flag, I wondered what the DB could have done to avoid a penalty. About the only thing I could think of was allowing Crabtree to pick up another 2-3 yards before tackling him. It was a hard hit, but not a vicious hit. You have a DB trying to tackle a TE, grabbing him would likely result in a broken tackle. Tackling a players legs is a lost art, but maybe DBs have to relearn it.Originally posted by pbmax View PostWas he capable of warding off the hit, or avoiding it? I don't think so. I don't think there is anyway Crabtree could have avoided that hit and he was not clearly a runner. I think by that definition, and by how they have called it in the past, he was defenseless.
But the reason it wasn't a flag is that the DB KNEW it was going to be close and hit him with his shoulder on his shoulder. That is permissible; the defender needs to avoid the head and neck. At least Crabtree, Marvin Lewis and I agree on that.

He's developed into a top hand at RT. He gets a lot of bad press, mainly based on his fuck-ups from his rookie draft. he had a rookie agent and between the two of 'em, Smith looked like a fool in that draft. The media and a lot of Bengal fans think he's a bad dude because of it, but he's actually a solid RT.Originally posted by Guiness View PostOh, THAT Andre Smith.
Ya. I've seen it.
And Perry blew his ass up. That's something experienced pro 5 techs and LOLB's haven't been able to do. I know Perry will have many rough spots in his first season, but there is strength and skill in that kid.

I don't share your confidence. Unless Francois in coverage can give us more than:Originally posted by Brandon494 View PostI hope Moses gets playing time this season, dude just makes plays when hes on the field. Adding him, Perry, and Worthy should really improve the pass rush and I'm starting to believe we can be a top10 defense again this season.

I think pass coverage is a strength of Francois. Not sure about his run-stopping ability.Originally posted by mraynrand View PostI don't share your confidence. Unless Francois in coverage can give us more than:
