On Sunday Dan pointed out that Robert Griffin III had taken a black marker and written the word “heart” on his pregame warmup gear. The rookie quarterback has a history of adding inspirational sayings to his clothing, so it wasn’t a huge deal.
Until we realized that he was using the “H” in the word to cover up a Nike swoosh.ke swoosh.
The NFL is in its first year of an apparel deal with Nike, and as we all know, RGIII is an adidas guy. Not so subtle, Griffin.
A league source told ESPN yesterday that the clever modification did not sit well with the league.
“It won’t happen again,” said NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy.
I asked RGIII about it at yesterday’s press conference and he played coy.
“I have not heard from the league yet,” he said with a smile. “That’s all I’ll say about that.”
