"He can catch the (expletive) out of the ball and he's a damn good special-teams player," an NFC scout said at the time. "If you're the Green Bay Packers, he's a damn good third-round or early fourth-round pick."

So, in 2011 at least one scout thought White was a good match for the Packers.
But, if he is a good special teamer, why did Buffalo release him?

Cobb has proven a quick runner can have success in our backfield. If he can block and has hands hello third down back. Does anyone have a clip on him in the NFL?

Have you seen Buffalo depth at RB? They are loaded with Fred Jackson, CJ Spiller and Tashard Choice and Buffalo is a team that probably needed more help at other positions.

I wasn't referring to his ability as a running back, I was referring to his ability on special teams. If a guy is REALLY good on ST, they find ways to keep them active, even without a "position". Like the LB the Packers had a few years ago, (his name slips my mind right now) no one ever intended to play him from scrimmage on defense, because he was awful, but a leader on ST.

I was simply suggesting that we shouldn't get too excited about his ST ability, since Buffalo saw no need to keep him for it.

Pretty sure you are talking about Tracy White but the Bills have so many holes on their team unlike the Packers I'm sure they just couldn't keep 4 RBs on the active roster.

No, Tracy White is the guy I was thinking of. Spent quite a few years in the league just due to his ST ability.

Yup, White. You could be right, sometime a special teams specialist is a luxury you can't afford, especially if you have a lot of short term injuries.

BR Marcus Wilson was the same way back in the mid 90s before he blew a ligament. Rarely saw the field as a RB, but was excellent on teams. Jarrett Bush should be the same.

I believe the pickings were thin here. We needed a RB and White was probably the best one out there on waivers or on somebody's practice squad.

How the Bills decide to manage their roster really doesn't make me feel one way or another about this guy. Not everybody is MM in regards to ST value... especially Chan Gailey.

I read Patler's posts as simply suggesting before we do that thing we often do as Packer fans - getting prematurely excited and close to orgasm - we remember that the Buffalo Bills let him go. So even the enthusiastic ramblings of an anonymous AFC scout should be carefully considered.

I think that's what he meant.
