I hope they do just well enough to keep Jim Schwartz around. I think he peaked last year and is on the way out, it's just a matter of this year or next year.

The Detroit News summed it all up when they contrasted Jimmy Schvantz's quote about not doing enough to win with Aaron Rodgers's quote about not playing well but doing enough to win in the end.

The difference between good and average teams is very, very slim in the NFL.

i'm starting to feel bad for calvin like i did for barry sanders back in the day. great, great players, solid people, but both are destined to be career losers because of all the rejects that they are surrounded by.

maybe CJ retires waaay too early too because he just can't take losing anymore

I hope they fire him and continue a tradition of coaching instability. If they give Schwartz time to right the ship, he might yet.

This team is an interesting one. I wonder if they'll go for broke this April and trade up to get what they think are big-time players and thus give up the chance at more draft choices, or will they simply fire the OC and keep with the same draft strategy? Or, will they now draft character risk guys more who have more upside, having passed on Janoris Jenkins?

An angry bunch, these Lion fans.

Given the way they ran in the second half, I am starting to wonder about the OC. I have not watched enough to be anywhere close to certain, but it doesn't look like their run game should be that unused. And Stafford is inaccurate enough that running more would help him as well.
Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

Oddly, the criticism here is that Linehan was too conservative, that he didn't go deep often enough.

I share your sentiment. LeShoure was beginning to gain bigger and bigger chunks in the second half. I would have used him more, given Stafford's struggles. It looked to me like LeShoure was close to breaking a couple of those runs. The 2 yard runs of the first half were becoming 7 yard runs In Athens second half.

No Schroeder got shaken by his facemask like an abused housewife (Kathy) on the sidelines. Holmgren was anti-woman. Anyone who wants to put Jones in a doghouse is either a racist, or is Mike Vick. But Vick would only put him in there for a few days before eating him with chopped herbs and béarnaise sauce.

Detroit's running game is inaccurate. More to the point, they don't have an identity there at all, since concussion boy went down. I've seen them run absolutely everything from shotgun in one half of a game and then, inexplicably (at least for my pea brain) they run everything out of a power I in the second half. WTF?

Sounds like another abused housewife issue,
After lunch the players lounged about the hotel patio watching the surf fling white plumes high against the darkening sky. Clouds were piling up in the west… Vince Lombardi frowned.

That is my hope too, but I think it might be worse to let Schwartz take them further down hill first. I don't have much confidence in his ability to right ship. Overbearing in-your-face coaches are tolerated when the team is winning. The wheels tend to fall off when they lose. Players are less likely to take their shit in that situation.

So, has anyone heard what Jackson was yelling at Linehan about?

                            Interesting, thanks very much.

                            Man, the Lions are toast.

they're in the division and all but...yes, I do feel sorry for them.

I'm trying to think if I've ever even met a Lions fan. I don't think so. Cardinals either, but, y'know...

I've met a few Lions fans. They are loyal yet seem quite aware of their team's shortcomings. I don't dislike Lions fans as much as the other two blue and purple tribes.
