They have to make some changes, don't they?

7 O-linemen are fine as long as everyone is healthy. They normally dress only 7 for games anyway. Even if Lang can start this week, can he finish the game? EDS and Van Roten are not tackles. If Lang is out, or gimpy to any degree, don't they need another tackle on the 53 man roster?

    Some thoughts:

    - Recently signed WR Jeremy Ross has a decent record as a kick and punt returner, and could be an option to give Cobb a breather now and then, as Cobb plays more and more on offense.

    - Even with Nelson hurt, do they need 7 WRs if the plan going forward will be to use TEs and Kuhn more to provide help in pass protection, as they did this past game? Plays with more than 3 WRs might be rare.

    - DD has contributed only a little on the field. Fans and teammates have been weaned from seeing him on the field. A thumb injury made him inactive against MN. Might this be a prelude to removing him from the 53 man roster, possibly to IR? TT like other GMs toward the end of the season tends to move a few dinged up players to IR to get a healthier, better balanced roster.

They probably need to sign an OT. To make room, Driver could be put on IR without negative fan reaction, as cutting him would have.

As I read your post, I kept thinking, well, who are they going to cut to make room for another tackle?

And I like your answer. Even bit players like Ross have value on ST, whereas Driver is so limited in what he can do. I thought they'd use him more in the slot, but that spot belongs to Cobb now. I'd hate to see the team get rid of a young guy who might be picked up elsewhere (like Boykin), so I think it would be a good idea to IR Driver, then sign the best available street free agent who can play both tackle spots. That guy, whoever he is, might well be firing up his hi-lo in some Costco right now, as we speak.

They might have the guy on PS right now - Datko.

With both Harris and White now on the roster, either of them would be candidates to be released as well.

Better NOT be Harris. He's the Packers' best RB on Madden. If Thompson idiotically releases Harris, he is released in Madden, too.

Manning to IR or So'Oto to the street are other options for roster space.

So'Oto was my guess, but you're right a serious case could be made for DD. I think it's not just a matter of Cobb passing by him, it's a matter of him just not being able to do it anymore. I didn't know Manning was that bad.

Roster composition though...we are the team that carried 5 TEs right through the year. I don't think that matters much to MM and TT.

What about Benson? I guess he was already 'IR, designated to return' so wasn't using a roster space when they moved him to the season ending IR.

Concur on Driver. I was thinking yesterday that Drive would be the next guy to go to IR if they needed space.

I don't know that Manning's injury is bad, but he was ruled out a couple days before the game last week and has had somewhat of a lost season anyway. This time of year it doesn't take a lot to get a guy on IR. Two years ago when Newhouse hadn't been playing and tweaked his back in practice, they put him on IR rather quickly. Manning and So'Oto seem to be the 9th and 10th LBs. Neither would be missed this year.

The 5 TEs last year all had purpose on the roster, and they didn't carry them all through the season and into playoffs anyway. Quarless went on IR in early December, and they kept it at 4 thereafter. At the time, 5 TEs made more sense than 7 WRs do right now.

Yes...I saw that as a problem as I studied our OL situation. A might thin at OL and at backup positions (a lack of NFL experience).

We have this fella on our PS:

                      # 77....Andrew Datco......Tackle.....6'-6".....315 lbs....22 Yr's old....R....Florida State

                      We're still carrying four TE's:

TE's Jermichael Finley, Tom Crabtree, D.J. Williams and Ryan Taylor.

I also see the situation as it presents itself RE: Donald Driver (along with Jarrett Boykin and Jeremy Ross); and 7 WR's total. Although right now I'm not fully up to date in regards to J. Nelson's hammy problem.

They'll keep Driver. Can't see them putting him on IR. They'd release So'oto first.
Promoting Datko is a possibility, but I wouldnt' put it past M3 and TT to tempt fate and roll with who they have.

If they run out of linemen they'll just send out extra receivers -- right now M3 is thinking up a 4WR/3TE package.

We've seen a 4 TE package already (All 4 TEs in WRs spots) - beginning of the year, can't remember which game - so 4 WR/ 3 TE might not be far fetched.

I wonder if Datko has progressed on the practice squad.

If so'oto or harris have ST value, then The Donald would seem the logical person to dump. Sad, but true. Just a few short months ago he was Dancing with the Stars.
