  • Barclay - Interesting article

    From JSO:

    http://www.jsonline.com/sports/packe...185491551.html

Another Mark Tauscher perhaps? Does it kind of ugly, but gets it done.

Article gives an interesting tryout comparison to Bulaga:

...Barclay ran 40 yards in 5.05 seconds and had a 29½-inch vertical jump to go with massive 10 7/8-inch hands and 33 3/8 arms. Bulaga's corresponding numbers were 5.23, 27½, 9¼ and 33¼.
Could set up some interesting competitions next year. Can Bulaga move back to LT? Is Barclay a legitimate starter long term? What about Sherrod, where will he fit? People keep wanting to write off Newhouse, but he persists. They might enter camp with four capable tackles. Will two become more than just capable to give the Packers a solid line in the image of the Clifton-Wahle-Flanagan-Rivera-Tauscher mold?

It'll be interesting to see how he responds this week.

I skipped over that one last night. Don't know why.

The Packers could be pretty solid at tackle next year. Sherrod, if he's a worker, should be a full 100% and in great shape. He should understand our pass protection and run scheme. It's another thing to get in there and do it full speed, but he should be far ahead of a rookie that way. His technique is going to take time, but if he's not starting out of the gate next year, he could have a full TC and possibly a big part of the season, if not the full season to continue to get physically stronger and fundamentally sound.

EDS has played well. Aaron seems to really like him. I'm sure at least one of our tackles could swing in and play guard. A little depth inside and our line looks pretty good next season. Maybe not superstuds, but a lot of NFL caliber guys 1-7 or 8. And young.

It opens Ted up to not pay a fortune down the road too. We keep talking about salary decisions. Having extra lineman in the wings goes a long way to saving a few million dollars per year.

Yes, very good article with an excellent analysis.

        Maybe another Tauscher is correct.

In reading the article, it did seem to me that the suggestion was that Barclay might be more than a stopgap. This surprised me, but if it's more t han a fluff piece, it does open up some interesting possibilities, with Bulaga potentially moving to the left side. And with Sherrod coming back to compete - and JH is right I think about where he will be in his development (and he should have had plenty of time to gain weight and strength, which were initial concerns, I think) - the competition next summer could be fierce. This makes me wonder if TT will still draft a LT. I do think he's still going to draft a center - at least I hope so. Maybe a guard, too.

Ah, who knows. He'll probably draft a wide receiver in the second round or something, and we'll all scream bloody murder. I remembe wondering who the hell Greg Jennings was.

Barclay is really scrappy and is busting his tail but he isn't Bulaga.

Well said, Red. Thanks for keeping it real!

I guess it's too early for my offseason fantasizing.

He had a meltdown vs Minny last week. It will be interesting to see if he can hold his own Saturday.

He needs to work on his punch and his kick step. He's a club fighter, he ain't pretty, but he wades right in there.

I have to say that at the risk of a jinx, I thought the Marshmallow held up pretty well. He seemed to hold his blocks longer than he used to.

As for Barclay, we better hope he's a quick study.

And by the way, did anyone notice that Rodgers kinda had to explain a lot of shit to DuJuan Harris before each play? The kid still doesn't really know the offense. That's got to be limiting.

I missed the meltdown. I guess I'll have to re-watch the tape. But that extra 1/8 inch in wingspan gives him the decided advantage over Bulaga. Stubby little Barney arms just don't cut it at tackle.

I'm re-tapeing that game this evening on NFL Access 'without the commercial breaks' and will watch for that Fritz.

I felt that Aaron Rodgers seemed distracted and uptight in that game, early.

Once he dialed in and saw the work in front of him he delivered though. I trust Aaron Rodgers. I hope our teams HC gives him some lead early Saturday evening. I'm hoping to see some hurry up/no huddle offense. So much heat on the Viking 'D' their heads are busting.

McGinn had Outhouse down for a good game against Jared Allen.
Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

The Vikes played two DE's over Barclay. Both had success, Brian Robison and Everson Griffen each got a sack. The meltdown occurred against Griffen. The young DE began to totally dominate the rookie RT from WVA. Barclay lost his confidence and began to panic. He's got the short week to prepare, let's see how he handles it.

Bulaga went thru a similar stretch early this season. It's a game of match-ups and adjustments, now it's Barclay's turn.

I am curious to see how this plays out. It appeared to me that Rodgers had to do a lot of 'splainen to DuJuan Harris before the snap - will MM play Harris as much if Barclay needs help Saturday night?
