MM is not persuaded by a moronic rat poll asking if it is a fad and the comments about the minor tweaks. I know its McGinn and 99 percent of the rats breakdown game tape and speak to scouts thus they have superior knowledge to the naive McGinn.

I really like this move. I read a similar article on ESPN. There, they mentioned that it was common for NFL coaches to consult College coaches, but it's nice to actually hear a candid response to an obvious problem with the defense. It's better than firing a guy, especially one who's had great success, avoiding a coaching carousel that kills a lot of teams.
          - Once again, adding absolutely nothing to the conversation.

Yup. It is nice the NFL arrogance of "you can not run that college stuff in the NFL" is diminishing.

Thanks for the type size for those of us with failing vision.

That poll and thread you mention was pretty evenhanded in its comments. Only a couple of posters thought it would be completely gone like the wildcat if you go by posted comments. As for the vote, if you split up people into only two choices, you lose a lot of nuance, sort of like your lead post here.

I bet everyone who posted on that thread thinks this is an entirely rational move. McCarthy is also bringing in some college guys to Green Bay.
Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

Get that fucking article out of this thread and replace it with a link that works. Articles are never suppose to be posted just linked. If you can't do that let me know.

I don't understand your criticism about the poll and our members comments.

Those who see it as a fad that will fade frequently opined that NFL DCs will learn how to defend it, the QBs will take a beating and come up frequently injured (like Vick, but maybe even more so) and there won't be enough multi-talented QBs to be real threats throwing, running and throwing on the run to make it prevalent.

Isn't MM sending coaches to learn how to defense it just part of the scenario that could lead to its fade from relevance?

If you are replying to me, if you have the poll thread handy, please link it. I would be interested in re-reading the commentary.

My recollection is as I wrote above. Most thought it would turn out the same as many other abrupt offensive changes in the NFL have for the last 50+ years that I have been watching it. It works extremely well when first unleashed, defenses "catch-up" to it, then it either fades away completely or settles back to much less prominent use.

....and what "spin" are you referring to?

About what, the read-option or your commentary?

I don't have an "official position", just a fan's opinion. As a fan, I reserve the right to change my opinion as I learn more about the subject that my opinion is based on.

My current opinion about the read-option? - It will get a lot of use by select teams next year, but DC's will learn how to defense it. In the future, teams with a perfect QB for it will use it some, but not as their primary focus. Other teams will dabble with it.
