  • Packers Running Back Lacy's Injury History

From McGinn this morning on his injury history: http://www.jsonline.com/sports/packe...204970531.html

But Lacy's injury history probably was the root cause why the entire league turned him down not once but twice in the draft.

Injuries limited Lacy to seven games as a high-school senior in 2008. After redshirting in 2009, he made it through the 2010 season intact before being affected by a turf toe injury down the stretch in 2011 and undergoing surgery in January 2012.

Last season, Lacy had an elbow injury and then a left hand injury that one personnel man said required the insertion of seven screws late in the year.

At the combine in February, Lacy couldn't work out because of pectoral and knee injuries. He also came up with a pulled hamstring that eliminated him from Alabama pro day March 13.

Finally, on April 11, Lacy ran a 40-yard dash (4.6 seconds) and performed drills, but became fatigued quickly and left some scouts looking for much more.
While I am not a believer in the TWO MAJOR INJURIES MEANS YOU NEVER DRAFT A PLAYER hypothesis that we learned about after Justin Harrell was selected, this list gives me great pause. Feel free to tell me why it shouldn't.

Without research here are the holes I see:

    1. Injury in high school cost him an unknown number of games for an unknown injury. Appendicitis? Car wreck? Coach bench him because he was dating his daughter?

    2. Turf toe injury allowed him to play and then required surgery. Doesn't seem catastrophic.

    3. He had seven screws inserted but played in the Championship game, no?

    4. Would pectoral and knee injury have kept him out of a game? Was it just agent manipulation so he could work out at the Pro Day (which then backfired with a hamstring injury)?

Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

All rb's have an injury history.

My bigger concern is Lacy's running style which leads to a shorter nfl career.

Green or Benson must be in the rotation.

Of course Lacy is not going to be asked to carry the team like AP in MN. We actually have the top QB in the game.

          Watch the highlight tape.

Lacy is expected to close-out games which leads to 20-25 carries per game.

All I want is for him to be able to pick up a yard and a half when it's third and one, and to close out games when the Packers are trying to run clock. Oh, and not get tackled for loss much, either.

It is clear Mcginn does not like this pick.

              Disagree big time.

This is why he fell to where he did; the dude is the all around most talented RB in the draft, but many GM's preferred more durable RB's with a history of being healthy over Lacy's past history. That is why he fell. I'll reserve judgement and take a wait and see approach. My gut tells me GB preferred Monte Ball, (as the NFL Network was reporting although in reality they don't have any more facts than we do so they are just speculating) and Denver did as well.

We got this talent because other teams feared his injury and felt he came into his Pro Day unprepared. There was plenty of buzz out there after his pro day that NFL attendees were disappointed.

So let's call a spade a spade. Eddie Lacy was the "4th" RB chosen in this years draft because other teams didn't want to take the other risks. Green Bay was ready to.

Wow, that list certainly gives me pause as well. Even the turf toe, it never really goes away, I've had surgery for it myself that was not very successful and it still bothers me daily. Didn't CWood occasionally miss games because of it?

'one personal man'? Does he or doesn't he have 7 screws? You wouldn't think that would be hard to find out.

I kind of thought all you dude's knew about this already; part of the reason my preference, besides being a Badger Homer, with Monte Ball was he is very solid at all phases of the game and he has been reliable in terms of not having serious injuries. Hopefully I don't jinx him now as I think Denver is a great fit and Ball has always been a fan of the Broncos so speaking with John Elway had to be awesome.

I don't think McGinn hates the pick; but dude is trying to sell papers so brining all this to the table will sell papers.

                      What about his head injury?

Okay then the Packers can not use Mcginn to put out propaganda.

What is your obsession with Mcginn? Do you secretly love him?

This makes sense if held up to Thompson's philosophy of trading back if there are several players of similar value. However, I wonder if there wasn't a non-RB or two in the mix they would have preferred? Perhaps not. Thompson has gone against first instincts before but those were trades up with one exception.

Its assumed the Harrell pick was made when the Packers preferred player was chosen and they couldn't go back for enough to justify passing on Harrell.

His trades down this time seem to indicate he is working his preferred method. So I wonder of they simply did not feel there were many defenders/other players left worth a third round grade.

I cannot find anything about his hand this year. You would think surgery on an All American RB before the Championship game would have made the papers.

I will take this. What I want: conversions on 3rd or 4th down with less than 2 yds to go (sorry, Kuhn doesn't cut it); legitimate running threat on 1st and 2nd down to keep defenses on edge; increase in Pack's TOP to help keep it's soft defense off the field; grind out wins on ground with 4th qtr lead. Come on Lacy, don't let us down!
