Seems to me the team needs more backup help in the middle than on the ends.

Yes. He was playing RT when he was hurt. Datko struggled at RT, and was better at LT last year in TC. Newhouse struggled at one of the Guard positions as a rookie. I wouldn't be surprised if they try him some at Guard again this summer.

In 2011, Newhouse jumped back and forth a couple times between RT and LT in the same game. Eventually he took over for Clifton full time.

Datko said last year that his problem was that all through high school and college, he had never played a snap on the right side of the line, and adjusting his footwork was simply requiring too much concentration. He said nothing was automatic for him on the right side. After a years worth of practices, it has to feel more natural to him.
