I'm actually just checking out Sam Barrington (again) after seeing that ** Dallas Cowboys (supposed) Draft Board and him on that board in Rd. 5. Somehow when I was doing my MOCK I missed this guy. He looks strong and seems to have a nose for the ball.Originally posted by Carolina_Packer View PostI'm intrigued to see how Sam Barrington does as well. Check this out. Looks like he's got a nose for the ball.

There's an solid example of a prospects college game not translating to the NFL but he suffered injuries as a factor too.
That's a huge difference to have too make >>> going from College ball too >>> the BIG TIME NFL.

Just because some no name writer states that Palmer wouldn't have been drafted doesn't mean Palmer wouldn't have been drafted."There's a lot of interest in the draft. It's great. But quite frankly, most of the people that are commenting on it don't know anything about what they are talking about."--Ted Thompson

You are correct, of course, but what matter if he would not have been drafted?Originally posted by HarveyWallbangers View PostJust because some no name writer states that Palmer wouldn't have been drafted doesn't mean Palmer wouldn't have been drafted.

If the story of Kevin Greene stopping in to see the Illinois State Coach is true, they found a guy with all the elements they like that they felt was easily worth a pick in the 6th. It really doesn't matter if he was on no one else's radar. Why risk losing him?
And if it makes KG happy, I am all for keeping KG happy.[QUOTE=George Cumby] ...every draft (Ted) would pick a solid, dependable, smart, athletically limited linebacker...the guy who isn't doing drugs, going to strip bars, knocking around his girlfriend or making any plays of game changing significance.

There are too many good scouts and good personnel men to do anything but take the guy you like best. If you drafted Tom Brady in the first round, James Harrison in the 2nd and Donald Driver in the 3rd, nobody is going to complain. If you let Tom Brady go because you think nobody else knows how good he is, you're not going to be a GM for very long.
Nobody is going to win playing manipulation games in the draft. Being clever is for people who have something to prove, who want to feel special at the end of the day because they tricked someone. Being good just happens when a guy has talent, work ethic and an opportunity.
People here arguing with Ted are arrogant and ignorant. Not one or the other. Both. And the arrogance isn't the kind based in reality, it's the foolish kind, the kind people have when they don't know how incapable they really are.Last edited by RashanGary; 06-01-2013, 12:26 AM.Formerly known as JustinHarrell.

Well, if you are 100% absolutely sure he wouldn't get drafted, then you take him with your last pick in the 7th round. Of course, despite what this article states, nobody knows if he would have been drafted or not. Thus, you go off your own board of where he ranks, and you draft him accordingly.Originally posted by swede View PostYou are correct, of course, but what matter if he would not have been drafted?"There's a lot of interest in the draft. Well said. One of the easiest things to do in life is be a second guesser. I salute all those people who work behind the scenes because they are the first guessers, and they have the most pressure to get it right and help find the Packers the talent they need.Originally posted by JustinHarrell View PostThere are too many good scouts and good personnel men to do anything but take the guy you like best. I have to shake my head at the original title. 'love affair'? They spent a 6th rounder on the guy. Did they maybe take a bit of a flier? Ya, probably, likely could've had him in the 7th. 'Curious love affair' would've been an Oakland-like reach taking a guy ranked in the late rounds in the second, a la Mike Mitchell.
I wanted to say Janikowski, but couldn't imagine this guy going in the first no matter what!--
Imagine for a moment a world without hypothetical situations...
