Also that FB who is not Kuhn (Amosa?) played a ton in the 2nd half.

I have no idea why you want a talented passing team to run 2 backs and 2 TEs and run the ball. Its just plain dumb. You go with the matchups that favor your success.

Also see no mention of some stellar Run D by the defense most of the game.
I didn't watch the game live... just blew thru it on FF.

I did rewind thru that segment near the goal line... everything out of the shotgun. Same old student body run blocking - running play 1, 2, or 3. No power running plays, no pulling, trapping.

As for what they played in the 2nd half... I really blew thru that - was really tired, and was watching the D more.

It's preseason, but I don't see anything that would indicate the leopard has changed its spots.

I just figured that getting close to the QB was a new thing and no one really knew what to do after they penetrated.

Against the Cardinals, the Packers rushed on their first nine first-down plays. The net of 25 yards (2.8 average) wasn't anything to write home about, but the commitment was stunning, to say the least.
In the first half, the Packers ran the ball 18 times and passed 19 times. They gained 167 yards, including 54 yards in 19 carries for a mere 2.8 average on the ground.
          So much for that theory.

          Now on to

"They run too much on first down! Predictable!"

          "They suck at running!"

          • "They run in pre-season, not the regular season."
One time Lombardi was disgusted with the team in practice and told them they were going to have to start with the basics. He held up a ball and said: "This is a football." McGee immediately called out, "Stop, coach, you're going too fast," and that gave everyone a laugh.

              Yes, all of that

Everything is out of the shotgun, out of passing formations - it's not like a defense even has to commit to stopping our running game. Play pass on every down, and you know the Packers can't do anything consistent on the ground, so forget about it.

That's a big part of the problem - which is why it is more advantagous to run/pass out of base formations with 2 TE's/FB and combinations thereof. MM doesn't do that much, and won't do it - game, set, match, see ya next year.

              • So, I didn't get to see much of the game. Listened to some of the first half. I have the game DVRed from the replay and hope to get some time to watch it tonight. From what I've heard, hear are my concerns.

I'm not happy that they didn't score at all or even get close to FG range to see what these two kickers can do. Thankfully we have three more games, so hopefully we can see if Crosby is broken or not. The other dude, I don't think is the answer for Green Bay kicking. He just doesn't have the leg that we need for cold weather. Seems he'd be a dome kicker.

What is up with House? I heard his name alot, giving up some big yardage. Was he playing off, like way off? All Camp I've heard he's been solid and then last night it sounded like he was a rookie. Was it scheme or was he just playing way off his receiver.

                I just can't believe they didn't score...at all.

                • As for House...on the one deep catch, receiver did an out and up route. House bit on the out. Might have been peeking in the backfield a bit. On the TD, his coverage wasn't bad. Nice throw by Carson Palmer.

I'm glad you have the ability to predict an entire season based on a preseason game of mostly 2nd and 3rd stringers.

                      • This could only be a touchdown in the TV replay era.

PB, MM did challenge that play. The ref's call was "the ruling on the field stands". I thought the only way they could rule it no TD is if they blew the whistle when his forward progress was stopped but that's NOT what they announced after looking at it on replay. Pre-season for the officials too.

Yes, I know. The Ref told McCarthy he could not be sure where Stakrs knee was in the reply. McCarthy's point is that the limitations of the human body and physics means it can't be on the ground.

I was commenting that before replay in football, 98 refs out of 100 would call this a run to the half yard line because from the position of his body, you would almost never look for the ball where it is.

                            • If that game had any meaning at all, we would be making a huge deal about that

That was a horrible call, up there with the fail mary

How can you not see that the ball is breaking the plane was his knee is clearly off the ground?

What are the replay officials allowed to consider? To call it a touchdown, they have to rule that his knee was clearly off the ground. Do they have to actually be able to see the knee, or are they allowed to decide that physics would determine that his knee had to be off the ground given the angle of the rest of his leg?
