Finley's play has been impressive in the limited time I have seen him in the preseason games. However, he's been quiet. A leopard doesn't change his spots. It's only a matter of time until the diva comes out. That's my feeling on Finley. If he continues his good play, I really won't care. But, I'm sure this team is going to hit a rough patch, most likely the first three games, which in my opinion, are going to be brutal. If he continues to keep his mouth shut during times of adversity, then I may change my opinion.

AR is taking responsibility this year to not just be the perfectionist at what he does, but also to make the guys around him better.

I think you might be describing the decision last year not to just invite Finley to visit him in the hotel before GameDays but to literally escort him there.

And while the results even last year were encouraging, I have no idea what has actually changed on the field. Bob McAdoo is not helping:

Despite all the hate, Finley has been a good player for the Packers. He's a major threat that defenses account for. When coverage goes away, he's good enough to take advantage. He has not lived up to the huge contract, but he could this year. Finley for Wells? Not even close in my book.

The Finley/Wells argument I put forth was based on the facts of their roster. It was not based on who was the better, or more talented player. They had other TEs, and it was expected that Quarless would be back. On the other hand, they didn't seem to have a center to replace Wells (later substantiated by the signing of Saturday). My point was simply that they might be better off spending what money they had on Wells rather than Finley.

But, Wells got a somewhat bigger contract than I thought he would, and Finley went for a two year contract, which I also did not expect. Probably won't matter because both will likely be gone in 2014.

With Jennings gone it would not suprise me if they keep JMike and pay him some very good money. Then let either Nelson or Jones go while Cobb fills their void. We have nobody to fill the void if Finley excels and it's hard to believe they'd let Jennings and Finley walk in two consecutive years.

That wouldn't surprise me, but I don't put it as a high probability. If JF has a big year, he could be awful expensive.

This. Even with the early season swoon last year, Finley has been the better signing no doubt. Esp. with Wells' guaranteed money.

I don't know much about the draft but I be stunned if the end of the 2nd round came about (maybe 3rd) and the Packers had not drafted an unknown wide receiver to replace Nelson or Jones eventually.
