  • Masthay's 23 yard punt - the cause

When Masthay hit the 23 yard punt, I was all set to reiterate a concern I have often read, that punters who also kickoff screw with there leg motion, and can became less consistent punters. Not the cause, according to Masthay, who said it was sort of an intentional adjustment to prevent a possible block:

"That was more of a reaction I made to a guy flashing on the right side," said Masthay. "If I hit it straight ahead, it might have got blocked. Or I might have reacted too dramatically. I will see that on film, whether I made a good or bad reaction."

if true, I'll take the 23 yards over a blocked punt anyday.

Watching live the way his leg moved to his left I thought blocked or 'touching the kicker' penalty. This explains that motion.

I am amazed that he didn't pull a hamstring in the process.

I both laughed and winced when I read that because I could see it happening!

            He's a hell of an athlete, for a punter/kicker.

That dude can tackle, too. I like that. I can't stand it when a punter/kicker makes a pussy move to pretend to tackle someone.

Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

I made a comment when it happened that I thought it was part of the team relaxing, losing some focus, due to the big lead. you know... at garbage time shit happens. guess not. good for him.

Masthay is my favorite ginger on Earth. Probably the only one I even have a positive opinion on.

I have never liked one of our punters as much as I like Masthay, and that goes all the way back to Heintrich.

C'mon, not even former MVP candidate, current ginger and fake punt first down machine Jon Ryan?

The man did not even need his teammates to be on the same call to make a fake punt work. And he might have tackled better than Masthay. It seems the one thing Slocum can teach.

I thought Josh Bidwell was pretty good.
One time Lombardi was disgusted with the team in practice and told them they were going to have to start with the basics. He held up a ball and said: "This is a football." McGee immediately called out, "Stop, coach, you're going too fast," and that gave everyone a laugh.
