I think causing a city-wide power outage is a reasonable enough reason to cut a player (Billups)
But I find it odd that Wolf at first claims no one was cut out of emotion, yet he and Holmgren decided ON THE PLANE that Rubley had lost the team. That is true if team means Head Coach and GM. He also led the last three GMs in cuts per year. He did have the bigger rebuilding job initially.
Thompson cuts almost half as many but there are a few quick decisions in there. Would love to know what McCarthy thought Thomas' other problems were, beyond the fact that by then he couldn't play.Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

Maybe not a ton of short term value in the article...but a VERY interesing one that bought out some things I didn't know.

Yes, they had a fight. I thought Thomas got the worst of it. Maybe they cut him because he fight back enough?Originally posted by Patler View PostDidn't he and Carroll get into a fist fight at a DBs film session? Not sure when that was.Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

Billups caused a huge stink on the flight home. A member of the Packers board that was an ex-player played bouncer and it was clear to Billups he was a Packer no more. Billups wrecked his car bc he was all pissed off. He was later killed in a fatal crash that was his fault. The guy was nuts.Originally posted by pbmax View PostI think causing a city-wide power outage is a reasonable enough reason to cut a player (Billups)

Good article, thanks.
Get a kick out of the reason for trading Simmons...if he wasn't going to be on the field, you didn't want that nutbar on the sidelines, he definitely would've caused a lot of trouble. I can see the Charles Martin thing as well, GB is not a big city and because of that the team relies on more support from less people. I expect the Packers are more sensitive to players doing stuff like causing brawls than a team in a bigger city where that wouldn't become the talk of the town for the next week.
I doubt the bit on Fullwood is the full story. At first sniff it might seem like they traded a player in his prime, but don't forget he was playing horribly in '90, and only appeared in one game for Cleveland, returning a few kicks. He never played again. Getting that 7th rounder was a steal in hindsight.
Some of the Sherman cuts were obvious and overdue. Seems to me it was obvious to everyone that Thomas, Rouse and Carroll were never going to be NFL players, Sherman held on to them too long because they were his draft choices. None of them became NFL players elsewhere either despite being given a few chances.
I didn't see Kuhn's screwup, what happened? Did see McMillan trip over his own feet though, that was bad.--
Imagine for a moment a world without hypothetical situations...

The article made a comment about how Rubley had lost the team so they cut him. Admit it, if you were a coach or player and your backup audibles out of 3rd and short to throw a pick against a hated division rival, you wouldn't be a little pissed. The guy wasn't exactly lighting it up so maybe that was the last straw.
Even though some of these cuts were 'emotional', I get the feeling that most were given 2nd and 3rd chances before being cut. I remember Fullwood failing the conditioning test at the beginning of TC and having a lot of attitude about even having to pass it. Thomas was a character risk coming into the draft, Carroll couldn't play, and didn't Martin effectively end McMahon's career with the Bears with a classless body slam?
How many of these players that were cut ever amounted to anything afterwards?
If someone can play, teams will usually do what they can to keep them until the headaches are way too much (or they age and their talent declines enough to justify their release). Witness Charles Haley or Terrell Owens.
Biggest difference nowadays is there's so much NFL coverage and the info goes instantly viral that teams keep a closer lid and less tolerance for a lot of that. (paging Titus Young)

Ryan Taylor blocked a Ravens punt, it landed past the line of scrimmage. Kuhn ran after it, and instead of jumping/diving for it he tried to scoop it up, failed, and the Ravens recovered to get a fresh set of downs. Ravens drove down to the goal line, and the defense held up. Saved his bacon.I didn't see Kuhn's screwup, what happened?

I think your last statement describes it; he was just a bad person..bad teammate.Originally posted by pbmax View PostYes, they had a fight. I thought Thomas got the worst of it. Maybe they cut him because he fight back enough?
Aaron Hernandez was also a bad teammate...he went after Wes Welker in Denver when Welker made a crack and called him a rookie......
I'm not comparing the two...at all.....but Hoody had blinders on with that one I think because of his talentTERD Buckley over Troy Vincent, Robert Ferguson over Chris Chambers, Kevn King instead of TJ Watt, and now, RICH GANNON, over JIMMY JIMMY JIMMY LEONARD. Thank you FLOWER

I never got the ridding of Wayne Simmons.
It was very well known that the late Fritz Shurmur really loved Wayne Simmons as a player but Mike Holmgren did not...and they clashed
When they got Seth Joyner he was washed up; Wayne Simmons was a much better player than Joyner when he arrived
The dropped the ball on that moveTERD Buckley over Troy Vincent, Robert Ferguson over Chris Chambers, Kevn King instead of TJ Watt, and now, RICH GANNON, over JIMMY JIMMY JIMMY LEONARD. Thank you FLOWER
