Rodgers: "I wasn't going to let this team beat us."

Vikings wide receiver Greg Jennings may well have been joking this summer, when he made remarks about Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and his leadership that became a persistent storyline through the preseason.

I didn't see much from Banjo during the game. In fact I noticed on two of the TD's the Vikings had running, he essentially missed the tackle on both plays. I suppose he played fine with no real boneheaded plays, but he and Burnett (or Jennings) didn't really stand out in the game.

He must not be doing everything right (Banjo) because sometimes I am not sure how 'Doc' Jennings keeps his job. He did miss a potential tackle on the KO return for a TD.

We debated this in two other threads I cannot find at the moment. But Jordy got the call in the slot quite a bit, Myles White was there as well.

Does White have a frame that can carry more weight, or is that it? He looks like he has some talent, but he looks like a high school kid out there.

Packer STs get Thumbs Down and Banjo was just chasing Patterson. Bostick, McMillan and Hyde had tackling opportunities.

Thumbs down: The Packers’ rash of injuries may not have derailed the offense or defense, but the impact on special teams was hard to miss on Cordarrelle Patterson’s 109-yard touchdown on the opening kickoff. Patterson took the ball on the edge of the back of the end zone and brought it out, and after Brandon Bostick and Jerron McMillian appeared to have the best opportunities to tackle Patterson around the 10-yard line, it was rookie Micah Hyde who had probably should have gotten Patterson at the 23-yard line. When Hyde missed, Patterson was gone, outrunning Chris Banjo, Sam Barrington and Tim Masthay en route to the end zone and a 7-0 lead.

I was thinking that as well last night. He just looks small. There's NFL players out there that are his height but they have muscle al least. But hey, just get results and the fans will be happy.

More on that in a moment. After that kickoff [Vike Return TD], the Packers went to kicker Mason Crosby instead of Masthay on kickoffs, and he never got to punt because the offense was so effective.

“Ah, shoot. Our offense was playing awesome. I don’t mind that at all. I just want to see the team play well and win,” Masthay said. “Mason came in and kicked off great, we covered well, so there’s no sour taste for me.”

Asked if he was pulled off kickoffs because it was in some way his fault, Masthay said special teams coordinator Shawn Slocum wanted to kick directionally thereafter.

I wish reporters provided more info on the ST units. He mentions Bostick, McMillan and Hyde as failing to do their jobs. Were they not on kick off coverage before all the injuries? I suspect they were, especially McMillan and Hyde.

Bostick was not at the beginning of the season. He has only been active for 5 games. I don't think he was on ST until Taylor was hurt. I remember reading he had precious little ST experience, even in camp. All the rest were, though assignments might have changed after injuries.

Ya, that's kind of what I thought. Making the final roster was said to be "iffy" for Bostick due to lack of ST experience, but, not an excuse for Hyde and McMillan. It would be nice if we had more info on the coverage teams, and how they have changed.

But, there seemed to be confusion last night among some even over who was doing the kicking. Masthay kicked the first, Crosby all the others according to the players. While I couldn't see their numbers, that is what I thought for most of the kickoffs as I watched the game, based on their somewhat different run-ups on kickoffs.
