Kuhn played for Pittsburgh in 2006. But I think the Packers may have signed him off their practice squad in 2007.I can't run no more
With that lawless crowd
While the killers in high places
Say their prayers out loud
But they've summoned, they've summoned up
A thundercloud
They're going to hear from me - Leonard Cohen

In my opinion, ya. But I won't be carrying torches to TT's house in any event.Originally posted by ThunderDan View PostSo if we somehow win the Super Bowl this year making it 2 out of the last 4 Super Bowls is it still a black mark against TT?
A team benefits from both a passing game (drafting) and a running game (free agency.)
Sometimes a team that is far out of balance wins the Superbowl.
I think TT could build a better team if he had a bit more balanced approach. I don't consider a 50 of 53 mark a badge of honor. I do respect TT as an excellent GM doing things his way.

I like having varying view points. Also we have been playing more base d and are establishing a more physical style which is what he advocates. We are seeing success with it.Originally posted by King Friday View PostIt's been nice not having to deal with wist lately. All tyrannies rule through fraud and force, but once the fraud is exposed they must rely exclusively on force.

This has much to do with the synergistic nature of Ted's approach.
When you have success you lose FA's which means gaining comp picks.
When you consistently draft BPA, you can often trade down to let the bones decide which player you get in the likely event that you have multiple players in the same tier.
When you combine extra picks with the kind of success we've had deep in our drafts you have an embarrassment of riches to the point where you're cutting rosterable NFL talent after camp. Adding budget free agents would be diminishing returns.
When you're a playoff team for an extended length of time you have the luxury of taking on projects like Lattimore, Brad Jones, Jennings, EDS, etc and actually seeing them bare fruit.
Just because a player has only played for the Packers, does not mean they weren't signed as free agents. Part of the benefit of Ted's method is the savings we get from paying guys below their market value on rookie contracts. Guys like Cobb, House, Daniels, Wilson, Hyde, etc. These players make it possible to keep our own in FA like James Jones or prevent our own from ever being free agents like Burnett, Jones, Lang, Nelson and others who have 2nd contracts. I don't mention Rodgers or Matthews there because they would never be cap casualties.

MM strikes me as a coach who teaches as well as designing plays for his talent. I know Clements and Greene are as well. The teaching method combined with TT team building style maximizes our players over time. I think MM and TT complement each other better than most coach GM combos and this helps see our success. All tyrannies rule through fraud and force, but once the fraud is exposed they must rely exclusively on force.

This is the part that is totally over my head.Originally posted by Upnorth View PostMM strikes me as a coach who teaches as well as designing plays for his talent. Does MM give TT wish list and Thompson does a "trust me", or what?
These two guys are obviously joined at hip, but I can't imagine what kind of dialogue happens btw tollbooth Mike and "the Ghost".
This is a meld btw a first class FO and a crack coaching staff.

I for one would love to hear from one of those two on how things actually were between them and how FA and draft discussions went.Originally posted by KYPack View PostThis is the part that is totally over my head.

More data on this topic:
28 of 53 are 5th round and lower picks. I don't know how that compares to the league average, but it's interesting that more than half of the roster is made up of players who were long-shots to even stick in the NFL.As of two weeks ago, the Packers' league-high 14 rookies were well above the league's team average of 8.9. And 28 players on the roster are fifth-round picks or lower.

So this is proof TT is bad at drafting as over half of the team does not come in the top four rounds, the shame, the horror. All tyrannies rule through fraud and force, but once the fraud is exposed they must rely exclusively on force.

...and yet, Alex Green is the only player from the last five drafts in rounds 1-4 who is no longer with the team!Originally posted by Upnorth View PostSo this is proof TT is bad at drafting as over half of the team does not come in the top four rounds, the shame, the horror.
Maybe we should criticize his ability to find players who will have longevity!

That's interesting and I'd like to do my own 'how built' list. All players from rounds 1-4 from last 5 drafts, especially when you add in that with the addition of Stoneburner, there are 13 rookies on the squad this year. That number could go to 14 if Tretter is activated.Originally posted by Patler View Post...and yet, Alex Green is the only player from the last five drafts in rounds 1-4 who is no longer with the team!
