  • Saturday Rips Rodgers

Face, meet palm. RT @JuMosq: Jeff Saturday says that Aaron Rodgers is just a product of Mike McCarthy. Interesting.

To be fair, while the headline was easy, there is no context to go on here.
Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

    Slow down, Jeff.

You stole money all last season.

I still can't believe they put him in the Pro Bowl.

He was also paraphrased by the Twitter account to have said the reason Flynn has a job is McCarthy as well, which is more understandable. However, Packers fans being everywhere pointed out that Flynn made his name in the League at least partially with Rodgers calling the plays (Lions game).

I'll be anybody $100 that Saturday was making a joke.

          Any takers?

Was told it was said on First Take. But two segments from today I see on site are talking about Cowboys and and Ed Reed.

First Take features Skip Bayless and a special guest Monday through Friday to debate the day's hottest topics.

Don't suppose Rodgers will reply that Saturday's success was a product of Peyton Manning.

Seriously, my guess is this was either a joke, a misquote, or an attempt to grab ratings.

                  Alone or with a friend?

I can't see Saturday having anything to say about Rodgers - why would he?

Well, now I have to issue a correction. Screaming A Smith starts with a rant about how good Flynn's agent must be to keep getting him jobs. Skip defends Flynn based on 3 games of stats (NE, Lions and emergency start for Raiders earlier this year). Saturday says the reason Flynn got a job so quickly this time was McCarthy and what he can do in that system. Skip then gets to the trouble-making, after a segment discussing the advantages Flynn might have over Tolzien (led by Saturday-protecion calls, familiarity with McCarthy and Rodgers on headset, etc.).

Skip veers this to say Rodgers is himself somewhat a product of the great play caller Mike McCarthy, which he poses as a question to Saturday and Saturday agrees. Mainly to seem consistent with his position that Flynn would be helped by returning to McCarthy's prolific offense. Screaming starts in to protest and Saturday, now having trouble getting a word in edgewise to amend his agreement, does finally get to say Rodgers does a lot of great things by himself on the field.

So there was smoke, but Skip had the matches again.

and .... Aaron Rodgers had little to do with who he is and recognized in the NFL!?

A Super Bowl ring and being chosen NFL MVP had nothing to do with himself.

If that or Jeff Saturday's comment was in any manner true. I wish that MM would become more involved or dedicated to more Packer player progress.

Spread that love around to the whole team Mike.

As the Green Bay Packer HC I believe he does.

I knew there was a reason I switched to the NFL network. After watching that video I remember why. They just scream over the top of each other. Saturday basically was saying that having McCarthy around has helped Rodgers. Also said that Rodgers would be good without him.

Skip Bayless needs to be given the Old Yeller treatment.

                          Yeah.

I had my moment of clarity during that show where they have 6 talking heads, all screaming at one another. I just went, holy shit, I'm watching this bullshit?

It's all ego and dick size on that show. On that network.

Clearly Jeff Saturday didn't make any inappropriate comments on that show. Here's how I interpreted Jeff Saturdays commentary:

Green Bay is near the top of the NFL in terms of it's offensive ability when healthy. A large part of that goes to the HC >>> MM (known as an offensive specialist). Of course MM and Tom Clements helped make Aaron Rodgers 'the Bad Man' at QB that he is today. Yet most of the credit has to go to the man himself.

What Aaron does for any backup QB in a game:

It's a plus for a backup QB like Scott Tolzien to have Aaron Rodgers 'miked up' on the sidelines to help translate offensive strategy (plays) based in how he reads any defensive alignments.

That fact was proven with the past success we saw when Matt Flynn was called upon as Aaron Rodgers backup Vs New England and Detroit.
