  • Will GB lose any of their FAs to Oakland?

An interesting situation is shaping up in Oakland. Of note:

They are playing this year with $55.6 million of dead money on their salary cap. Darn near half of their salary cap is going for players who are not there.

For 2014, they have contracts worth about $58 million on 34 active contracts and another $9 million of dead money (included in the $58 million). They could end 2013 with around $6 million in cap space to move forward into 2014. Assuming a salary cap of $123 million, Oakland could have $70 million available cap space. I believe the CBA requires 89% of the cap to be spent by each team. If the cap is $123M, 89% is $109M+. Oakland could be looking to spend $50+ million, at least.

As McKenzie makes over his roster, he could be looking to bring in players he knows well to be solid, even if not spectacular, and may be willing to offer sizable, but short-term contracts. Since he knows GB so well, he could target some of the large group of GB FAs.

Better Oakland than Minnesota or Chicago.

If he takes raji then i say throw in tramon for free

Its a bit scary to think that if shields or jones gets to free agency, there may be no way we can outbid oakland for them

Ya, they've got some crazy dead money there. 33 players on it, and of the top 7 listed here, 5 are still playing in the NFL! Granted, they aren't playing at a level commiserate with their salaries, but you can't have guys you're paying floating around the league helping another team!

        Code:
        Richard Seymour	$13,714,000
        Carson Palmer	$9,340,000
        Rolando McClain	$7,260,000
        Tommy Kelly	$6,324,270
        D Heyward Bey	$5,260,000
        Matt Flynn	$3,875,000
        Michael Huff	$3,288,750
Further down the list, Kluwe is counter a cool $50K! lol
