I never liked the idea of having the punter be the holder. It severely limits the creativity of fakes. What I always heard was they do it for practice convenience, but you'd think at least some ST coaches would not prioritize that sort of thing.

So, sitting here at the car wash waiting for my buggy.
On the way over was listening to Lucas Patrick (new Bear) on the local sports radio station.
All Lucas wanted to talk about was the Bears.
All the radio hosts wanted to talk about was the Packers.

Yea, prior to free agency it was usually the backup QB since they didn't change so often. I'm not so convinced punters are so consistently on the roster now days either. I mean if we had taught Love to hold he certainly has had a longer stint than the last 2 punters.Originally posted by Joemailman View PostHaving the punter as holder gives you more consistency from year to year. That makes more sense to me. Punter is hanging out with the ST anyway and has more time to work with the long snapper as his practice is limited to punting the ball few enough times to avoid leg fatigue. And the punter also has to handle long snaps already. I guess it makes sense, but if you have a really good punter that can't hold, I would look for alternatives....not that our punter was good in December as Fritz mentions.Originally posted by texaspackerbacker View PostI never liked the idea of having the punter be the holder. Not true. There's been lots of interest; he's gotten offers from both Home Depot and Burger King.Originally posted by Teamcheez1 View PostHow bad is Kevin King? No interest with a month until the season starts."The Devine era is actually worse than you remember if you go back and look at it."
