So many on here and elsewhere proclaim Rodgers to be the best QB ever, while I agree he is great, I'll reserve calling him the greatest of all for a few years. Anyway, my question is. If he truly is the best, and the coaching staff/team believe this. Why not get the players this team so obviously needs to make them solid contenders while "the best" is in his prime? This draft and develop crap would be fine, if you were also developing a young, promising QB. But AR while not old, is past young.

IMO, these next 3 to 4 years could be his best, why waste them waiting for the rest of the team to catch up. TT needs to use free agency to make this team more solid NOW!! Waiting would be like racking up 200,000 driving in the city on your awesome new car. Then taking it on cross country trips and wondering why it threw a rod. Sure the "car" possibly could run great until it has 300,00+ on it. But it's more than likely not going to happen.

Most folks say Rodgers is the best QB right now - not necessarily the best ever. They point to his historically high passer rating and his other numbers. We won't be able to say definitively until his career is over.

It would be nice to able to sign some FAs we all covet but it ain't easy when you are paying your elite QB serious money. We aren't the seachickens or SF who are paying their QBs peanuts.

It's not hard to look at who is going to be out there this year and match up the #3-4 guy at safety in that price range. Of course...that would mean we'd have to bring someobdy in for a visit.

He's not the best ever, he's not the best in the NFL right now. He's in the conversation of Top 5, maybe Top 3, and is certainly considered elite.
I don't have the exact #'s, but the Packers have something like $20million in cap space with 17 free agents...so they'll have to figure out who to keep from Shields, Jones, Raji, Finley, EDS, Pickett, Quarless, etc. and keep room for signing draft picks and probably set money aside for Jordy, Cobb, Bulaga next year. When all is said and done, not a lot left to sign a bunch of FA's, although I agree a few carefully targeted signings could help. Maybe they dump a couple of contracts, but the contracts as-structured have to gain them enough extra space to make carrying the dead money worth it. I'm not seeing TT going that route.

I also don't think we'll see any blockbuster Woodson-like signings. The team is at a different point than back then. If TT signs a veteran, it will be at/near the vet minimum...maybe he splurges and signs someone to 2yr/$3M.
IOW, if you want a lot of big FA signings and to win the off-season a la Dan Snyder, prepare to be frustrated.

Not sure where to do league-wide search for average deals on WRs. But based on last deal ($9.7 mil for 3 yrs, $3.2 mil APY, 2.25 guaranteed) and a cap going up in 2015 I would be willing to do three years at $4 mil per yr. Guarantee has to be in first year, which will limit it and team friendly meaning he carries the risk of injury.

i personally think we can only keep 2 of the 3. jordy and cobb are bth free agents next year, and i think both might be in that 8-10 million a year range

if you add in jones making 5 or 6, thats a ton of money wrapped up in you QB and his targets

i think if we do resign jones, then packer fans are going to have to come to grips with the idea of jordy and/or cobb no longer being on the team after next season

I would hope to keep Jones at slightly less, but you raise a good point. Looking up his contract reminded me he is a seven year vet. So if I had to choose, I would choose Cobb and Nelson.

My concern for Cobb is durability and consistency. But Jones skill set wouldn't be impossible to duplicate with someone else.
