  • Primer on Alex Van Pelt and Scott Tolzien

Great quotes from Rob Johnson, tales of Buffalo and why Van Pelt is a good choice to develop Tolzien.

Van Pelt will get on players. Johnson recalls one game against Kansas City. He threw a bad interception, met Van Pelt on the sideline and the veteran was dumfounded.

“I said I thought they were in a certain coverage,” Johnson said. “And he said, ‘They don’t play that (expletive) coverage!’ He knew everything. He was awesome. I said, ‘You’re right. I’m seeing ghosts or whatever.’ There’s tons of examples. We all knew he’d be a coach.”

It doesn't shock me at all to find Rob Johnson confused about coverages.

Swede: My expertise in this area is extensive. The essential difference between a "battleship" and an "aircraft carrier" is that an aircraft carrier requires five direct hits to sink, but it takes only four direct hits to sink a battleship.
