26 yr. old ex-Vike was signed by the Packers to a 1 year deal today. Haven't seen any contract details yet. Guion was released last week.

A few years ago I liked his potential. He was pretty solid. The whole DL fell off last year. I always felt he'd make a better 3-4 DE and a Vikings buddy of mine agrees. He thinks he'll be a solid rotational guy. More than likely, he's C.J. Wilson but a bit better in pass rush and a bit worse in run defense.

Oh yeah, and Packer fans should know because his two outings against us last year were especially shitty. He looks the part but he's painfully slow and not stout at all for a NT.

Like Peppers, Guion was released by his old team. Therefore, he will not affect the Packers' possible compensatory picks in 2015.
Lmao, so who have the Lions cut recently?

To be fair, he showed enough potential for the Vikings to give him over $3M/year in 2012, so perhaps a change of scenery will help. I'm not expecting much. It's a C.J. Wilson-like signing, but it's possible he adds some depth. Here's what Spielman said when they resigned him:

"He's an extremely talented athlete," Spielman said. "I know when we had meetings on all of our personnel, we still think there's a huge, huge upside to Letroy.

"I know we played him some at three-technique and some at nose. Talking with (new line coach) Brendan Daly when he came in and (new coordinator) Alan Williams, we feel if we can settle him in at one spot and let him learn and grow in that particular spot that he's only go to learn and grow in that particular spot that he's only going to improve and get better."
The Packers are likely to use him differently.

Yeah, unless Dom goes 4-3, I think he plays 5 tech for the Packers.

Which makes me wonder, does the move of Raji back to nose mean that Eagle Oakie is gone? Because if it is, then the run D might improve with the even front. Its one of the reasons M3 wanted to go 3-4 when he was looking for a DC in 2008/9.

If Eagle Oakie is gone, then there are two 5 tech DE spots up for grabs, not just one.

If we do end up keeping this Gui (that's already a bit of a leap), don't be shocked to see him line up in a front of Peppers/Guion/Raji/DJones with Peppers as an elephant OLB

Guion goes 6-3.5 315# according to the JSO. They say he can play anywhere along the line, but he doesn't sound like the brightest jewel in the casket.

Guion's arms were measured at an exceptional 347/8 inches at the '08 combine. He bench-pressed 26 times, posted a 30-inch vertical jump and ran 40 yards in 5.31 seconds.
Two scouts said there was no question that Guion has the size and strength to hold up at nose tackle in a 3-4 defense.
"This kid will give you everything Pickett did," one scout said. "He is a powerful, powerful man. But Pickett would be a much smarter player."
Guion also has extensive experience as a three-technique defensive tackle and, according to one scout, could function over the tackle as a five-technique end.
"It's worth a shot," another personnel man said. "He's country strong. He's fairly athletic and he's played good at times."
I love it when the scouting report on a player is "It's worth a shot".
