  • Packer 2014 compensatory picks

Speculation that the Packers might get a 3rd for Jennings and a 6th for Walden given they didn't sign anybody last year outside of the failed Saturday experiment.

Found the following blog on ESPN with interesting references to past players drafted with compensatory picks. Given this years deep draft a additional one at the end of 3rd round could be key.

    http://espn.go.com/blog/green-bay-packers/post/_/id/8476/will-the-packers-get-more-draft-picks

Looks like only Pittsburgh and Baltimore are slated to possibly get more in compensation than the Packers.
60% of the time it works every time.

jennings is right on the border for a 3 or 4. it looks like all the recent 3rd round comp picks were issued to teams who player was signed away for just over 50 million(funny money or not)

guys who's players were signed away for 30-40 million got 4th rounders

jennings signed for 45 million. so i could see it going either way

fyi, i can't get that link to work

How many more draft picks will the #Packers get? They'll find out next week.
      http://espn.go.com/blog/green-bay-pa...re-draft-picks …

      Someone at philly.com is guessing a 3rd (Jennings) and a 6th (Walden).

The guy (Craig Turner) guessing has a history of some success, but its not clear if he was the guy who invented this guesswork.

With WAY too many juniors coming out this year this is about the deepest draft we'll see
An extra third round pick would be HUGe

Wit that being said, we'll get a 4th and a 7th...stop getting your hopes up...we always get screwed on these !
TERD Buckley over Troy Vincent, Robert Ferguson over Chris Chambers, Kevn King instead of TJ Watt, and now, RICH GANNON, over JIMMY JIMMY JIMMY LEONARD. Thank you FLOWER

I agree with B. I don't think the Packers have ever got the pick they are projected to get

We signed Saturday in 2012--not last year.

why should the Packers get shafted just because Minnesota QBs suck?

In case I wasn't the only person to not fully understand what qualifies or does not qualify for compensatory picks, here is an article from SB Nation based on the Denver Broncos.

I’ve seen some questions out there asking about compensatory picks so I figured I’d do a little research on the subject.

For our purposes, these folks have put together a list of rules that seem to provide a basis for solid prognostications.

                  - Lost players that are cut or not tendered as RFAs and ERFAs do not qualify

                  - Lost players that were picked up during the season the year before do not qualify

                  - Signed players that are released before midseason do not qualify

                  - Players earning low minimum salaries do not qualify

                  - Each player signed cancels out one player lost

I'm in this boat. The Packers seem to get screwed on these things. I'm guessing a 4th for Jennings and maybe a 7th for Walden. Although given my impression of Walden, I think that means we have to give up a 7th as the price to pay for getting rid of the guy.

C'mon Fritz, two free agent signings?! From other teams?!

Its a different kind of year.

The Badgers also outscored someone in a mid to high tempo basketball game. Next thing you know, the Packers will be playing good defense.

yeah, it really wouldn't shock me if we get one 5th rounder and thats it

it seems like every year we get way less then what we thought we'd get, and less picks

and we're all left scratching our heads wondering "what the fuck?"

There was a guy who ran a site that predicted the comp picks. This guy was uncanny. He was usually right on the money. I always felt that he picked the comps a round low from what the JSO and blogs did and it worked. He stopped doing it 3-4 years ago.

I think Red's guess will be about right.

                            I'd be ok with a R4 and R7, although I'd much rather a 3 & 7. I'm not going to get my hopes up.
Comp picks have value -- even though you can't trade them, it's a good way to move around via trade with your other picks while ensuring you don't deal yourself out of every round. Plus, as others have mentioned, there are more underclassmen declaring in this draft than ever, which implies there will be good depth (at least at some positions) and TT should be able to get good value from the picks.

I think it's going to be 4 & 6. Jennings signed a big contract and had a decent buy not great year. Started 15 games and had 800+ receiving yards. Similarly, Walden sign a surprisingly big contract, (4 years, 16 million), started 15 games, and had 56 total tackles and 3 sacks .
