I agree. The topic itself obviously belongs here. Its the mod's call, but I would prefer surgical extraction of the lunacy, and by that I expect each of my comments that weren't germane to the topic would have been fair game to cut.Originally posted by Patler View PostI think given a little bit of time, the thread would have recovered. Even among the politically motivated posts, people were responding to the football issues. After a few blew off steam about the nature of the NLRB, and others blew off steam about those who blew off steam, I think the college football issues would have prevailed.
But, now I know how to get a thread banished just for the heck of it....Hmmm, isn't there a rumor about Favre running for dog-catcher? Probably akin to the corruption in the ranks of county sheriffs. If I start that discussion in the Favre thread.......................................!!
Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

I don't think its worth it to open the door to censorship. That's always been the best thing about this site.Originally posted by pbmax View PostI agree. The topic itself obviously belongs here. The discussion definitely went sideways when it turned to whether the decision would be over-turned or not, and Obama got brought up. I was enjoying it until then, it was an interesting discussion about the directions this sort of thing could take the college game.--
Imagine for a moment a world without hypothetical situations...

This whore has a point. This is a valid football topic. Just cuz you step on a pile of dog shit on your lawn doesn't mean you have to tear out the whole yard. We can do the same here by just scooping the poop.Originally posted by SkinBasket View PostOr maybe it was the overreaction to the overreaction?
This is the same problem we had with people like Partial before. You could have a discussion that might get heated or contentious or that deals with (gasp) political or social ramifications, but then you get one person, or two, who go all over the top, both those arguing politics and those screaming like a fucking girl scout seeing a video of ejaculation for the first time at the mention of politics, and asswipes like Zool end the discussion instead of dealing with any breaking of the mythological rules by a particular poster.
In this case, the fact is the NLRB, no matter who's appointees, is a highly politicized entity, which has only become more extreme in recent years, and as such, their decisions are mostly political theater and fiat policy advancement instead of judgements of fact, evidence, precedent, contract, or law. So either some folks need to put on their big boy pants and learn to discuss those aspects without acting angry or screechy or pouty, and our mod slave-masters will have to learn an iota of tolerance, or I would suggest waiting until the case in heard in a court (probably in front a politicized judge, but what are you going to do?) to begin an honest discussion based on judicial evidence, contracts, and law instead.
Some people here just can't act like adults, and our moderators have fostered their intolerant screeching over the years, so unfortunately I don't see other topics relating to the NLRB and unions turning out much different.
But the dog who keep shitting on the grass does need to be punished.

I take the point, but its hard to call it censorship when two clicks on the same site you can post whatever comment you might like to with almost no limit.Originally posted by 3irty1 View PostI don't think its worth it to open the door to censorship. Otherwise pictures of Dick's Sporting Goods get the thread in the Witness Protection Program.Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

You can just delete the offending comments to save the thread but that still doesn't seem as good as a mob-justice-based solution. Breaking the rules should be its own punishment because this is a community.
Either Patler is right and the thread recovers and the collective memory of Packer Rats puts some guys on douche watch, or we just lock the thread to get everyones attention and remind them of the rules we came to as a community. Yes people will bitch at the mods but like 90% of a mod's job description is to get bitched at. Only someone who loves themselves and hates themselves like Zool can do it.
Censorship should be a last resort and when it takes place the post should be replaced with a description/explanation instead of deleted.70% of the Earth is covered by water. The rest is covered by Al Harris.

Just to clear up your error, I am the only poster who is right 100% of the time....therefore your error makes sense I guess.Originally posted by Zool View PostThat was was my plan but it's impossible to keep everyone happy because everyone here is right 100% of the time. Hmmm....I never noticed, and I don't even recall it. I guess I don't "categorize" my views...or my minorities.Originally posted by MadtownPacker View PostI didn't see the mess but how about we just prune the bullshit and leave it? ^^^ Boom right there is a perfect example. Bobblehead doesn't even know he did anything wrong because someone deleted whatever he said, striking it from public record. Had it been replaced with an explanation from Mad, or possibly even an MS paint picture of bobblehead and Fritz taking a shit on the thread... people would learn from their mistakes.70% of the Earth is covered by water. I think there are some posts where you can do this (the obscenity-laden name calling can just be expunged). Other websites will simply break off a portion of the thread to go into another forum. That works pretty well most of the time, unless it's sort of metastatic cancer.Originally posted by 3irty1 View PostI don't think its worth it to open the door to censorship. Problem with that strategy on this site is that FYI is a little too histrionic and some people who could make reasonable arguments in there hate it so much as to not even try."Never, never ever support a punk like mraynrand. Rather be as I am and feel real sympathy for his sickness." - Woodbuck
