-AFD- The Green Bay Packers announced today the signing of Pro Bowl receiver DeSean Jackson. There were rumors over the weekend about unknown teams interested in signing Jackson but the Packers were never mentioned. The surprising development marks a radical change in off-season activity for the usually quite Packers.
Packer's GM Ted Thompson said the signing will provide the offense with a devastating triple threat at wide receiver creating match-up nightmares for even the best defenses in the league. When asked about the reported character issues involving Jackson Thompson had this to say; "First of all DeSean has never been implicated in any serious wrongdoing. He's a good person who unfortunately has had some questionable friends from the past. We expect the environment of Green Bay will be conducive to him focusing on football. Also once inside the organization, we are certain he will embrace the Packer way, and fully respect the organization, his teammates, and the hallowed grounds of Lambeau Field. I told him that here respect will be demanded from him and respect will be given to him, and he respected that."
Details about the contract are still coming out, but it is rumored to be a 2 year 22 million dollar contract, with a signing bonus of six million, a base salary of one million in the first year and an additional million that can be earned via per game bonuses. An 8 million roster bonus due on the 3rd day of the 2015 year means that this contract could easily be a one year eight million dollar contract, with a cap hit of just 5 million this year.
