Hawk and Borland are the antithesis of one another. One is an athlete with so-so instincts. One has instincts to spare but next to no athletecism.

Notice all those highlight clips... does anyone see Thorton playing from any 2 man lines?? He's going to sit a lot - probably be inactive most weeks, unless there are injuries. If he does suit up on Sunday, and we don't have a lot of injuries - who is dunderdummy going to make inactive?? D. Jones, Neal, Raji, Daniels, Boyd, Guion, Worthy??

As long as dunderdummy is our DC, defensive linemen don't matter.
Then isn't it the case that a lot of the time the Packers are wasting "BIG MEN"?

I'm just not sure I understand how they intend to employ all these hybrid guys after last year proclaiming they wanted a traditional 3-4 DE in Jones.

This Rookie prospect has what certainly appears as STRONG hands

          Looking closer:

Latest on DT Khyri Thornton including news, stats, videos, highlights and more on NFL.com

          32 1/2 inch arms and 9 1/2 inch hands.

** Weaknesses: Has short arms and small hands

** Tends to wear down and tire late in games and effort wanes

** Needs to develop more pass-rush moves

** Misses a lot of tackles

I listened to McGinn's and Demovsky's podcast the other day... they are thinking the same thing I am - where the fuck you gonna play the guy??

If we're not going to play a 4-3, and the only nickel subpackage we use is the 2-4 - when is the guy ever gonna get on the field?? And if he gets on the field, that would be at the expense of Worthy for sure (so he's a bust??); and it will also be at the expense of Boyd and D. Jones. I suppose you can play those guys in a rotation, but we simply don't play that much 3-4.

Aside from the fact that he was rated lower by just about everyone else - I will say I liked a lot of what I saw of him in the film I watched; but again, given how dunderdummy plays his front six, I don't see how this pick does anything for the team.

Big guys wear down fast. You need a good rotation.

I'll refrain from damning Capers until we see if having a safety and an olb who have some concept of the difference between their asses and their elbows makes a difference. I still think Capers was calling defenses that reflected a justified lack of trust he had in his players. It does sound like MM thought Capers put too much time into trying to teach complicated schemes and too little time perfecting them, so the schemes have been cut back a bit this year.

I can't tell, but I think you're hoping this guy plays lights out and you're trying to dethrone Bresky as the Whammy king?

I'm with the Mad Scientist viewpoint. They seem to be working on the assumption that either Pickett or Jolly are not going to be around. They need to find replacements even if positionally its not ideal.

I want a good rotation - I've wanted a good rotation for years. The problem is, we don't play much 3-4 base - so what is there to rotate??

If we're playing 2-4 60-70% of the time, all you need is 2 defensive linemen most of the time. If the game plan is against a team like the Niners or Seahawks, Dunderdummy will play a lot more 3-4; but if it is against a passing team, most of those guys will be inactive or standing on the sideline. We've invested all these high draft picks in the defensive line - Perry is a 4-3 DE, it's time the Packers owned up to that - and they're completely wasted.

Worthy is probably history now, Perry can't wait to hit the door, Neal and Raji are on 1 year deals (that's two 1st round picks, and two 2nd round picks that are still young, and will be heading for the exits next year)... we need to restock to the cupboard, but everyone is being misused anyway, so it's hard to get too excited about any DL signing or draft choice.

I like a lot of the players, but we're just wasting picks and money on the DL as long as Capers is there.

Neal got a two year deal. Worthy is on a 4 year from 2012 and Perry should have a 5th year Packer option, also from 2012. So a little more time for those guys to step up.

The real issue with the team and winning BIG is on both lines as I see it.
