  • Mulumba's head slap on a KC QB negated a Jumal Rolle interception... Not good, but not really the kind of thing players are usually judged for.

How did Carl Bradford look at ILB?
Did Jake Stoneburner play on any special teams?
Did Andy Mulumba do anything noteworthy?
Bradford looked willing but a step slow to react. Had some tackles but was scored on via pass in goal to go situation, also missed one tackle. Needs time. Problem might be that they put Palmer at ILB as well for a good spell and had him calling the D plays.

Didn't watch ST for him, but Stoneburner had a few catches including one very nice wheel route that got a first down on his YAC.

Mulumba had some reasonable pressure but no results I recall.

I did not see every play of 2nd and 4th quarters.
Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

Someone did but Mike didn't have any information about injuries from last night.

          • My take aways from the game:

Elliot had already made the squad but had his best 5 snap streak in this game. I think its too early to call him a major find but he's a good football player.

Janis is good enough right now to contribute. He's definitely not the detail-oriented route craftsman that we're used to seeing but in the meantime he can make a career on having everyone misjudge his speed. Nobody takes a good angle on him. What really has me excited though was seeing him catch a very contested ball over his shoulder for his touchdown. As the 5th or 6th WR on this team doing that is the only way to make an impact. I think he can be used in a poor man's Cordarrelle Patterson type of role and also a Robert Meachem type of 9 route specialist role.

I also think Myles White makes us keep 6 WR. He's looking very polished and smooth and a great 2nd slot guy on a team with a hairy split TE situation. On top of that he's got at least as much special teams utility as Janis. He's made a few nice tackles in the coverage teams this preseason.

Of all the bums we mined (2012 © Wist) this season I'm most excited about Pennel. For a rookie he looks outstanding as a point man. Stays square, stays on his feet, and knows where to position himself to poop in an offenses Cheerios. He needs conditioning, he needs reps, but I think he and Boyd can be the Tandom that Raji and Pickett were supposed to become.

Bradford held up, did what he was supposed to. He had good coverage on the TD he gave up and for the most part made his tackles but basically played very conservatively. Not sure if that's smart for a guy in his situation.

In obvious pass situations we had our guys lined up in a 4-2. With the OLBs putting their hands on the ground. I saw some real wide 4 point stances even. I'm thinking the coaching staff likes its dogs this year.

Mulumba hasn't taken a step forward. He's still a physical dude and doesn't look fun to block. I think he's firmly behind Elliot and probably Palmer because of his versatility. Assuming Palmer isn't going on IR.

Sherrod is a much worse run blocker than Bak. I don't think reps will ever fix that part of his game. He's just too nice guy like Clifton was.

Jarrett Bush being the best player on the field actually makes me hate him more. What a goddamn tease.

Where were all these good safeties and running backs 3 years ago?????

He had an interception called back due to a penalty? Guy couldn't catch a break, he also had a nice pass breakup on 4th down that KC got a 1st down on due to a penalty. The TV feed said encroachment, but someone on the board said it was hands to the face. No replay, so didn't see either.

              • How exactly did Sherrod do last night?

He is definitely behind Bach to start the season.

                  • So he didn't make any major, major gaffes last night, but he didn't impress in the run game?

Two negative plays I saw. He got walked backwards into Flynn's lap by #55 on a bull rush twice. He was too high and couldn't recover. Neither was a free rusher or fire drill, but both were bad. He needs to get lower and anchor better.

He also kept getting neutralized in the run game. His size and long arms mean you aren't getting around him, but his best straight run blocking was a no decision. At worst, he would get punched and retreat a step.

McCarthy said Sherrod transformed himself and was stronger this year. But that didn't translate often to the field. He needs to use his legs, get lower and as KYP said, learn to punch first or like Clifton, ignore the punch and win anyway with strength.

                      • Pb pretty much did a play by play update on all his snaps in this thread if you're curious.

I thought he was fine in pass pro. He loses tons of style points but at the end of the day he's effective. As a run blocker he's just a gentle giant, can control a guy to a stalemate but not violent and not doing much at the next level.

I would have liked to see Linsley play more, and even the emergency center (Sitton?) take some snaps. But I get the tradeoff.
I think Linsley played the 1st quarter. I got scared when I saw he wasn't on the field in the second quarter, thinking he'd been hurt. I saw him standing on the sideline, I think in the 4th quarter with his helmet on. It was good to see him standing, but then I questioned why his helmet was on.

                          • There was another Tackle that looked pretty good, but again, he was going against 2nd and 3rd stringers - Vujnovich. I hope they sign him to the PS. He could be another Barclay.
