  • Lyerla arrested

This didn't tak long - Lyerla arrested in Oregon for 'being under the influence of intoxicants'. He was driving.

Pretty big nail in his NFL career coffin. It was mentioned around there that getting an injury settlement and letting him run with a pocket full of money around instead of being on IR and part of the Packers organization would be bad for him, and things went bad quickly. I don't see how he comes back to the Packers, and would be somewhat surprised to see him back in the NFL at all.

Colt Lyerla's circuitous path to an NFL roster has suddenly become a bit more convoluted.

Ugh. Had high hopes for him turning it around.

I had the sense that when the Packers released him with an injury settlement instead of putting him on IR that it was because they had observed things about him they didn't like. Didn't want him around. I'd say it's over for him.

Ya, I sort of got the "wash our hands of him" impression, too.

            Old devil rum again.

I think there is every reason to hope that the guy goes through some sort of rehab and comes out of it.

edit: I just looked up what his troubled past is about. Cocaine? BFD. He can't be in NFL now, but he should be back.

Its too bad. I hope he pulls out of it.
Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

The problem is, I'm not sure what kind of a support group he has. I believe his parents are a major source of the problems he's had.

                  Apparently not devil rum -
Lyerla was reportedly suspected of being “high on either illegal drugs or prescription medication”
Well some $150K will now go to lawyers as well has what he wasted on blow. It will kill his NFL chances, even in a league that give Ray Rice a slap on the wrist, and is planning on reinstating Josh Brent.

Technically the NFL hasn't banned him, but teams are not likely to give him a chance. Perhaps if he had proved himself, he'd be facing an actual suspension with a chance to play again. Million dollar body, 5-cent head.

Justice is unjust in the NFL. Josh Gordon got a year-long suspension for inhaling pot via secondhand smoke. WTF?

Well Rice was cut and suspended indefinitely now.

Yep. He's done. He gets to keep the huge amount (25M) of the contract already paid, but at least won't get paid for this year. At least that balances things a little bit.

Does he or does he not get paid for this year? As a vested vet, his contract is guaranteed for the season if he's on the roster week 1, right? Does suspended count as being on the roster?

Also be interesting to see how the contract is written, and if they can claw back some of the signing bonus for 'conduct detrimental to the team'.

According to PFT, suspended = not on roster, so nothing for this year. Don't know about any clauses, but I suspect there isn't anything. If Hernandez didn't have anything, I doubt Rice did.

Why would the NFL not give him a chance? That's crazy talk.

Do you really think that cocaine use is that different from alchoholism, or Bret Favre's vikes?

BTW, I hate cocaine. The Grateful Dead were merrily taking their pot and acid and mesc, the love was free and flowing, and then cocaine got popular. Coke is an insidious, mean-ass drug that ruins personalities and lives. It's worse than meth in that it is socially acceptable. Coke destroyed so many people in the 70s and 80s before people knew what it was about. Nice white people, too.
