  • Official Packers vs. Dolphins Discussion Thread Week 6

    Packers favored by 3

Temperature expected to be in high 80's with chance of a thunderstorm. Hope Packers don't wilt in the 2nd half like New England did. Expect to see the green jerseys.

Dolphins pass defense is a respectable 9th, although they only have 3 INT's.

Nothing about the Dolphins offense is scary, but they don't turn the ball over.

This is, of course, the 1st meeting between the 2 teams since Joe Philbin left Green Bay.

Dolphins lead the series 10-3, although the Packers have won 3 of the last 5. Dolphins won the first 8, from 1971-1994.

    Say their prayers out loud
But they've summoned, they've summoned up
    A thundercloud
They're going to hear from me - Leonard Cohen

Packers released Ryan Taylor and signed Dorsey to the 53...

Ryan Taylor was a demon on special teams.
One time Lombardi was disgusted with the team in practice and told them they were going to have to start with the basics. He held up a ball and said: "This is a football." McGee immediately called out, "Stop, coach, you're going too fast," and that gave everyone a laugh.

Surprising, but I like Dorsey. I think he can contribute down the line. Taylor is what he is. As far as the TEs, I want the Pack to give Bostick a chance.

Dorsey was on a lot of #1 special teams units, so he's likely to get a lot of snaps on special teams. I wonder if the combination of Bostick getting healthier and Boykin getting injured allowed the Packers to go in a different direction. Also, anybody else watch Janis on Thursday? I know he caught two balls, but he appeared to really have a hard time beating press coverage. I think he needs to get stronger. I think the front office thought too much of his potential to release at the end of camp, but I wouldn't be surprised if Dorsey is more ready to contribute as a receiver this year.

Then I think teams have been game-planning for him then.

His snap counts on special teams have varied this season. Since Week 1, when he was involved in 13 plays (48 percent), he has taken 14, 12, 4 and 12 snaps. He had one tackle in five games.

Taylor made his biggest impact as a rookie in 2011 when he finished second on special teams with 10 tackles. He had eight tackles in 2012 and five in 2013.
Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

Also possible, Cover 2, meet 4 wide and Lacy.

It might be that another team tried to sign Dorsey and Thompson didn't want to lose him.

I thought Miles White outperformed Dorsey in the preseason. Heck, it looked like Gillet made more plays than Dorsey.

Like Harlan, I wanna see Janis play more, especially with Rodgers.

Looked like a JAG to me. I can't seem to recall a time Taylor made an "impact" play on special teams.

Too bad, Mike Sherman was the scapegoat in the Incognito-Martin scandal. Sherman would look good on the shoulders of his players after a victory over the Packers.

Joke aside, it looked like Tannehill has regressed without Sherman.

Edit: Looking at the the Fins' depth chart, I noticed that Daryn Colledge is their starting LG. A big day for Mike Daniels?

It will be interesting to see how the Dolphins open up against Rodgers and the O.

Dolphins backup DE Derrick Shelby arrested after reportedly molesting woman at a Ft Lauderdale nightclub.

Shelby was "touching females at location without their permission," it says. Security removed him from the club, and a police officer told him several times to stop obstructing a roadway and the club entrance.

Shelby refused, according to police, and asked the officer, "What are you going to do?"

Appearing to be intoxicated, he began filming and photographing the officer, who called for backup, the affidavit states. Shelby was again asked to leave and refused before police told him he was under arrest for trespassing.

"Upon attempting to place Shelby into custody he began pushing away from officers and took an aggressive fighting stance," the affidavit says. "Shelby was placed on the ground, where he was actively resisting and attempting to brace his arms to defeat efforts to place him into custody."

Shelby was "overpowering officers," according to the supplemental report, so an officer used a stun gun on him, but to no effect because of "the proximity of the prongs on his back."

The officer used the stun gun on him again in the right shoulder, "which was temporarily effective in gaining more control over Shelby, but he immediately returned to actively resisting and trying to free his other hand," the report says.

After police stunned Shelby a third time, they were able to take him into custody and transport him to a local hospital and then the Broward Sheriff's Office jail.
"What are you going to do?" Here is what:

Take the Packers on that spread. I think they roll 'em. Does Miami have a running game? Who is there QB? Chad Henne is a great college QB - probably not the best pro. I like GB to win by 14+.
