  • Lowest possible QB rating?

I thought there was a minimum QB rating, just as there is (or at least was) a maximum rating. Kaepernick put together this impressive stat line yesterday:

    9 of 19 for 67 yards, 0 TDs and 4 interceptions.

His QB rate is 16.7 per the Gamebook.

I thought there was minimum that was higher than that?

Nah, it can go to zero. Cutler had a goose egg at halftime against the Pack a couple of years back.

But has it always been that way? Wasn't there a minimum at one time, just like the maximum?

I don't think it's ever been changed. Zero is the minimum though, you can't get a negative number, any negative values that the different parts of the calculation (which is possible) are zeroed out.

Actually, Wikipedia just told me it's been in place in its current, original form since 1973.

Thanks. I will have to reprogram my thinking!

Seems like you could go negatory.

Andy Dalton had a QB rating of 2 last season in a game.

What we need here is to come up with the equivalent of baseball's Mendoza Line - something so abysmal it sets a standard, and named after a player.

The Cousins Line? The Weeden Line? The Dalton Line? The Krappernick Line?

I dissected the passer rating once upon a time. Its minimum is zero and is maximum is 158.3 (I think, my dyslexia might be kicking in). It's built on four different statistics that have go from zero to a maximum.

What's lower than zero? The answer is none, none more zero.

I'm left with zero and what can I do with zero?

I'd go with the JaMarcus Russell Line.

Incredible line by Kaep. Quincy Carter smoked crack and never posted a 0 QB rating

No Packers on either 0 games or the 'perfect' games. Lots of wild things on the 0 list, including the dueling 0's game Atl-Stl 12/9/73. Watching that game film must cause blindness to any QB coach.
