  • Florida State GPS Tracker System Reduces Soft Tissue Injuries By 97%!

So I'm switching back and forth between the Florida State and Wisconsin games on TV and suddenly my ears perk up. The sidelines babe is babbling as usual but suddenly she says: "The Florida State strength and conditioning coach says they've reduced soft tissue injuries by 97% by using a GPS Tracker system." Apparently FSU has pioneered this device, which straps on the back of the players' shoulder pads.

    What???!!!!

So I Googled and found this article (http://www.columbiatribune.com/sport...7e998ef14.html) from July, 2014:
Florida State believes GPS helps prevent injury

At the core of their success, literally, is a harness that weighs all of an ounce and sits snugly beneath FSU players’ shoulder pads during practice.

In it is a GPS tracking device, and it has been the primary ingredient to FSU’s recent run of injury-free seasons.

FSU started using the device on players several years ago to measure an athlete’s performance, manage fatigue and monitor health. The results have been extraordinary, according to FSU Coach Jimbo Fisher. He credits the technology for vastly cutting down on injuries, stating that preventable soft-tissue injuries such as strained ligaments and pulled muscles are down by 88 percent the past two years.

“I live by that thing,” Fisher said. “There are going to be major surgeries sometimes because you’re going to get a knee or an ankle that’s broke, or a leg. You can’t help that. But a lot of the wear and tear on the body, we’re able to take a lot of the guess work out of now.”

Isn't the hamstring a soft tissue muscle? Could this system be the next Gatorade-type innovation that revolutionizes football training and conditioning?

    Helloooo!!! Packers!!!!!

Yeah, I know the article says injuries are down 88% and I heard 97% on TV. But then again the article is over a year old.

Anyone want to send a Twitter or a Tweet or whatever they goddamn call it to Ted?
One time Lombardi was disgusted with the team in practice and told them they were going to have to start with the basics. He held up a ball and said: "This is a football." McGee immediately called out, "Stop, coach, you're going too fast," and that gave everyone a laugh.

its not something FSU came up with or started

they've been using it in rugby for about half a decade, and as usual american football is just late picking up on it

according to this article, as of early last year, almost half of the nfl was using the technology. green bay of course was not amung them

the nfl does not allow the devices in games (probably because the company doesn't pay the nfl a ton of money) but teams are allowed to use them in practices

    heres the companies website

    EDIT******

actually, according to their website, the packers are one of the teams using the tech

and we've been doing it for 2 seasons now

A growing number of individual Packers players are taking a low-tech approach to their training by adopting yoga.

Since taking over as Green Bay Packers coach in 2006, Mike McCarthy traditionally started practices with a jog-throug...

so, i guess the gps isn't the answer to our problems

Damn, I wonder what their injury report would look like if they weren't using it?

Maybe Stubby doesn't know that the shoulder pad thingies didn't come with batteries included?

If I recall, one of the founders of the company said he had a NFL team that studied it for 2 years before implementing the whole thing and accepting recommendations.

I believe that team was the Packers. So they have been working with GPS for all but games for close to four seasons now.
Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

They only collected data for the first two years. Last year they implemented it. That was the start of Saturday practices, among other changes.

So it worked wonders for one year, not so good this year. Though I think they can claim fatigue injuries are still down. There hasn't been a player lost for the season has there? And several players (D Randall and one of the WR) have come back in a couple of weeks.

This is quasi related to what I do with my life when I'm not busy obsessing over Green Bay. That "97%" number is pulled out from deep in someone's ass. It's not even shit. It's undigested.

I bet when they looked at the GSP signals from Lacy, they were all centered around his refrigerator.
