Reuben Frank, of phillyburbs.com, reports free agent OL Calvin Armstrong (Eagles) worked out Thursday, Aug. 31, for the Green Bay Packers.

Anybody know anything about this guy?

A sixth-round draft choice in 2005, Calvin Armstrong learned the workings of the Eagles blocking schemes from offensive line coach Juan Castillo during his rookie season. Armstrong was a three-time All-Pac 10 selection as a left tackle at Washington State.

I don't think TT's looking for starters (unless Minny cuts Hutch or something) as he doesn't want to set their chemistry back 6 weeks. Having someone new in there screws up the timing no matter how good of an o-lineman they are. The next 24-48 hrs will be fascinating.

Moll is not ready to be a starter; I'd hope TT can acknowledge that and is looking for a starting caliber OG.

I honestly wonder if TT is kicking himself for letting Wahle go. However, because he was a politician in his previous life, we'll never know the truth to what he's thinking.

Sherman shoulda had Wahle on a less cap unfiendly contract to begin with. I wonder how Sherman would have pulled off keeping our vet guards.....

I read something where if Sherman had added an extra 2.5MIL or so to the original signing bonus of the original deal the buyout would not have been there.

But Sherman would have did some massive restructuring and possibly even let Bubba Franks go to keep Wahle.

The closest you'll get is that he's said it was a mistake. If that adds up to sleepless nights, no way to tell.

The Packers were up against the wall (pun intended) and had to sign him to a shorter contract. Still, the Packers could have paid the bonus and re-signed Wahle in 2005 had they wished to do so. TT has shown consistently that he will evaluate a guy and set a price and not exceed that price. Remember that TT was a rookie GM last year, and like the patience shown Sherman in his three years as GM, suffering through the death of his right hand man Hatley, I'm certain Packer fans will extend the same courtesy to TT as he learns the ropes.


EDIT note: It was Sherman that re-signed Wahle to the shortened contract - I orginally had written that it was Wolf.

Letting Wahle go was not a mistake. While I value the OL, you can't have too many highly paid guys there, or you don't have playmakers elsewhere.

The problem was the lack of depth. Not Wahle's contract or the buyout, or all the other BS bantered about. The problem was DEPTH.

That you can blame on Sherman, I'd think. There was no focus on the future. The goal was to "win it now" and worry about tomorrow, tomorrow.

Guess what? It's tomorrow....
