  • MM's REASON FOR GIVING UP PLAYCALLING............HMMMMMMMMMM

I said, 'I read where you're giving up play-calling,'" Holmgren recalled. "'Mike, don't do that. You're a really good play-caller.' He's very good at that. 'Your body of work is really good. Don't do that.'

"He said, 'I have to spend time with special teams.'

I said, 'Special teams, what do you care about special teams?' I was having fun with him. He wanted to coach other things."

      Stubby really blew this one.

If he hadn't kept Slocum around so long, even though it was evident he was out of his league, he wouldn't have to worry about special teams.

      Stubby.

Perhaps I left out the obvious choice for who is most responsible for the offensive collapse

        Maybe it's

        SLOCUM !!!!

No No No. The reason for the "collapse" is three-pronged: First and foremost, it was the popular philosophical decision that either McCarthy came up with to push a run-first strategy or somebody convinced him of. Given our lousy O Line and overrated receiver corps - now exposed by Nelson's injury. Second, Ted Thompson gets major blame for settling for mediocrity to go along with the all world QB he either wisely procured or lucked into - take your pick. Third, there was the bad luck of injuries - the closest thing we had to a top flight WR as well as depletion of the already fairly crappy O Line.

The reason I put quotes on "collapse" is that it ain't quite a done deal just yet. I read that Aaron Rodgers implied that the Packers are gonna open things up and pass more. If that happens, the first of the three reasons for collapse goes away. I'm gonna go out on a limb and predict a resurgence of Packer offense and the passing game, resulting in a big win at Washington.
What could be more GOOD and NORMAL and AMERICAN than Packer Football?

Almost every year comes down to injuries. This year is no different. The whole play calling thing is one big distraction.

What are some of you going to do when they have minimal injuries and still fail?

Pray that he finally acquiesces that his late game strategy (esp. in close games) is WAY too conservative.

Because while you could fire him, the odds are overwhelming that the next coach is worse in a fundamental way.

Don't be Danny or Jimmy, be a Rooney*.

                        * It really hurts to write that.
Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.
