  • I said this in the Banjo string, I mean thread. Is it the route concepts, or the execution of the route concepts. If we all agree that tonight A-Rod had enough time on many drop backs to survey and run through the normal progression of the play called, but ended up having to do scramble drill, even with decent protection. Is that more because of the isolation routes being stale and predictable to the defense, is it the lack of talent at WR to win in the route concepts, is it Rodgers inaccuracies on plays where there isn't even that much pressure, or is it a combo?

    • Mostly, it was Rodgers off on short throws (e.g. screens) and drops. Jordy must have dropped four balls last night (it may have been the worst game of his career), including a couple of big plays and one that turned into an interception. Richard Rodgers dropped a TD. Kind of a weird night. Outside of that and the punter, most of the units had a good night.

"I’ll tell you right now, I’m pretty sure if I catch my balls it’s a whole different story," Nelson said. "It’s just making the most of your opportunities."

      • The Packers dominated the Giants last night at Lambeau. Costly turnovers, shitty short passing, drops by receivers and the worst punting I have seen in a game kept it close. This should have been in the 34-10 range for a final score.

The Packer D dominated the Giants O. They could only score FGs on short fields until the last 5 minutes of the game.

The Packer O shot themselves in the foot over and over. We had 250 yards of offense in the 1st half and only put up 17 points that should have been 14 if not for a strip sack by Fackrell.
But Rodgers leads the league in frumpy expressions and negative body language on the sideline, which makes him, like Josh Allen, a unique double threat.

        • Jordy is not near all the way back. I remember a particular play where the camera followed him running a route. He jogged straight downfield, did some kind of weak stutter-step, cut to the left and didn't fool anyone. The DB stayed with him step-by-step. I got the feeling Jordy doesn't trust his knee to make his usual quick and hard cuts with acceleration. That's what used to give him separation.

As for Cobb, he was his old, fearless self -- a fantastic 1st down machine. IMO the game's MVP.
One time Lombardi was disgusted with the team in practice and told them they were going to have to start with the basics. He held up a ball and said: "This is a football." McGee immediately called out, "Stop, coach, you're going too fast," and that gave everyone a laugh.

          • Holy Fackrell was terrifying a diminished opponent, but he looked pretty legit on a speed rush. He develops a counter to that and watch out.
Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

Don't forget Adams deciding to not catch a ball he was perfectly in position to catch because he thought someone was behind him.

Kickoff coverage was not good to go along with punter. Lotta missed tackles. Banjo getting hurt led to at least two missed tackles on next two kicks. Kinda odd since his backups had gotten reps while he was banged up earlier.

              • I don't have statistics to back this up, but my impression was that Stubby ash-canned -- for the most part -- his no huddle offense. Arod was under center a good part of the game as well. I also noticed more motion and two men in the backfield sets. Stubby also seemed more willing to use play action and misdirection. This is good IMO. Plus, I have to say his game management in the last three minutes was improved, showing a willingness to be aggressive with the pass to earn 1st down and close out the game.

Is it possible that this is done deliberately, to set up a later route? I know d-linemen and pass rushers do this all the time - give them a slow-mo look a few times to lull the blocker into thinking that's your speed - then at a key moment, you blow by them.

Or maybe not. Maybe Jordy said it best:

"'I’ll tell you right now, I’m pretty sure if I grab my balls it’s a whole different story,'" Nelson said."

And isn't that the truth for all guys, anyway?

He definitely went with more options and personnel groups, Ripper included.

But you will notice that the second half featured a LOT of 11 personnel (1RB, 1TE, 3 WR) and the no huddle returned with poor results.

As I recall, Jordy was the primary target on that play. My point is he just looks tentative on his cuts and acceleration.

MM and AR keep saying Abby runs nice routes and sing his praises but he never sees the field. What is up with that? If our other WRs can't get open perhaps we should give Abby a try out there?

Perhaps AR shouldn't be forcing the ball to Jordy just yet.

I was not happy with Adams there but later in the game he practically crawled for a first down. He has some neat moves and can fake defenders out of their shoes. Let's hope he keeps progressing.

And you guys keep telling me Stubby is too stubborn to change his game plans.
